The Nature Conservancy Emiquon Preserve

The Emiquon Preserve, also known as the “Jewel of the Illinois River,” is aptly named for its abundance of wetlands and wildlife. The sheer biological diversity made it the natural place for Native Americans to settle long ago. In recent years, the land has undergone a restoration returning its natural beauty for all to enjoy once again.

Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area

A 26-square mile tract situated in the gently rolling countryside of west-central Illinois, this scenic natural area has one of the state's largest public access areas.

Sand Ridge State Forest

The largest of all the state forests in Illinois. Covers 7,100 acres of native oak-hickory forests and pine plantations. Supports diverse desert flora and fauna in its sandy landscape as well as also offering a variety of recreational facilities.

Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area

Approximately 5,000 acres are timber, while there are 46 miles of trails for activities including horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and bicycling. Boating is permitted. Camping with electricity.

Sanganois Conservation Area

A 9.960-acre bottomland environment of sloughs and backwater lakes, Sanganois is managed primarily to provide a refuge for migratory waterfowl and a public duck hunting area.

Crazy Horse Campground

Crazy Horse is a 55-acre campground blanketed with rolling hills, hiking trails through wooded land, and two large ponds for fishing, boating, and a swimming beach. Crane Creek Golf Course

This beautiful 18-hole course is situated on rolling elevations, with fast and true greens. Crane Creek also has a clubhouse, driving range, food service and a bar.

Powerton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area

The lake was built on the floodplain of the Illinois River in 1971 by Commonwealth Edison Company as a cooling reservoir for the fossil-fuel power plant. Today, the completely diked, 1,426-acre lake is leased for visitor hunting and fishing.
