Johnson Sauk-Trail State Park

Hiking trails and scenic drives wind through the 1,365 acre park where boating, fishing, hunting and picnicking and camping are featured. Unique boathouse features a beautiful view of the waterway.

Hennepin Canal Bike Paths

The Hennepin Canal Parkway follows an old towpath that was actually never used, although the locks and aqueducts are in still in place. It was originally built to link the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. The 105-mile path is level and easy; however, water is scarce along the way (found only at locks 21, 22 and the Visitor Center), so be sure to bring plenty, especially during hot days. The landscape varies from forest to grasslands to marsh to farmland, and the trail is particularly pleasing during fall, when the leaves are changing colors. The Hennepin Canal Parkway has become a cyclist's paradise and an exceptional spot for fishing, birding, horseback riding and a wealth of outdoor recreation.

Jubilee College State Park Camping

Jubilee College State Park is a 3,200-acre facility, located in Peoria County between Kickapoo and Brimfield, just off U.S. Route 150. This scenic area, with its rolling topography and meandering Jubilee Creek, offers various outdoor recreation.

Carriage Classics, Ltd.

This horse-drawn carriage service is available for scenic tours, weddings and other occasions. Equipped for all seasons. Evening rides in downtown Peoria Fridays and Saturdays during April through mid-October. Thursday through Saturday rides during June through August. Pick-up points at Hotel Pere Marquette and The Landing. $20 for two adults and $5 for each additional person. Children under 10 ride free. Carriage rides available 7 p.m. through midnight. May be hired any time of the year for service in the Peoria and surrounding area. We also have a horse-drawn trolley available for special groups outings. Call for details!!!

Rock Island Trail State Park

The Rock Island Trail provides 27 miles for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. A primitive campground is also available. One of the premier rails-to-trails facilities in Illinois, this trail is a sure-fire winner for the entire family.

Snakeden Hollow State Fish and Wildlife Area

Features exceptional waterfowl hunting opportunities. The 112 water impoundments offer large-mouth and small-mouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, bullhead, rainbow and brown trout for fishing. Seasonal restrictions and limited access may apply.

Francis Park

Francis Park home to "Woodland Palace" is easily accessible from I-74 and I-80. From I-74 take IL 78 exit north to Kewanee and from I-80 take IL 78 to Kewanee. Follow Highway 34 for four miles east of Kewanee to arrive at the park. A great place to tour and enjoy the outdoors. Perfect for your special occasion. 40 acres of woodlands to explore while camping at one of 60 RV sites with electricity or in the spacious tent area. Water, dump station, free firewood are available. Enjoy the playground equipment, ball diamond, horseshoe court and picnic area. Open and closed area shelters available for rental. Open May through September - no reservations available.

Mautino State Fish and Wildlife Area

Encompasses 871 acres of mostly unreclaimed strip-mining land. The area is dotted with some 15 stocked lakes for fishing. Be aware that shore access is limited and that shorelines tend to drop off suddenly into deep water.

Marshall State Fish and Wildlife Area

Bottomlands and bluffs support a variety of animals, plants, and outdoor pursuits including picnicking, camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking. Migrating waterfowl, great blue herons, and bald eagles provide birders exceptional viewing opportunities.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner while overlooking the 56-acre lake. Featuring Buffalo burgers, vegetarian choices, homemade pie and daily features. Central Illinois' most unique farm market. Wagon rides, playground, corn maze, farm animals, Apple Express train. Three Sisters Park

Three sisters, Sadie, Lillian, and Goldie Cohen, expressed a wish that the 400-acres of farmland located adjacent to the city of Chillicothe, IL be dedicated as park land and a model farm for educational, recreational, and conservational purposes. While the Cohen sisters lived just off Moss Avenue in Peoria, they loved their family farm. Their vision was for the property to remain agriculturally related. The master plan envisions the creation of a living history farm, a central activity building, large festival areas, a welcome center, restaurant, agricultural equipment museum activity area, and outdoor natural amphitheater. The open fields and forested areas offer unique space for special events, concerts and festivals.

Windmont Park

Windmont Park, a 20-acre site on the city’s southwest side, is one of the most attractive settings of any park in the Midwest. A lagoon is surrounded by a large variety of trees and shrubs, and the eye is drawn to an iron footbridge that crosses the lagoon. There’s also a sidewalk that circles the water. A fountain donated to the park by a group of citizens adds a finishing touch to the scene. Recently installed at Windmont were an disabled accessible fishing pier, a new shelter, playground equipment and wider sidewalks for walkers enjoying the jaunt around the lagoon.

Peoria's Grandview Drive "World's Most Beautiful Drive"

This quote from President Teddy Roosevelt describes his 1910 visit to Grandview Drive in Peoria Heights. The vistas gazed upon by the former president still sit upon bluffs unchanged from when the Indians first settled in the area centuries ago. Drive along the two-and-on-half mile drive to see the expansive panoramic view of Woodford, Tazewell and Marshall counties, where on a clear day, visitors can see more than thirty miles of the scenic Illinois River valley.
