The Franklin Creek Grist Mill and Interpretive Center is a reconstructed, timber frame, four-story 1847 grist mill located within the Franklin Creek State Natural Area.
At the Mill you can watch the four-ton waterwheel as it powers pulleys and gears to turn the 4 ton millstone to grind corn like in the 1800s. Other displays include milling equipment, 43 panels from native Illinois trees, fossil viewing in stone walls and there is a self-guided interpretive trail. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Suggested donation is $5.00. Open Friday Noon- 4 pm June through August and Saturday & Sunday from Noon - 4 pm April through October. Go to the website for more information.
