Take the plunge into the deep, dark, Savage Ancient Seas! It is the world of the late Cretaceous period-over 70 million years ago! Filled with huge carnivorous marine reptiles with double-hinged jaws and teeth in the middle of their palates, gigantic flesh-eating fish big enough to swallow an adult human being whole, flying reptiles with 3-foot skulls, and the biggest sea turtles to have ever lived! Exhibit opens to the public January 17, 2015, and is here until September 7, 2015.

Anderson Japanese Gardens - Japanese Summer Festival
Join in the fun at our two-day cultural event featuring exhibits, traditional demonstrations and unique performances that appeal to all age groups. All Festival activities are included with Garden admission. The Japanese Summer Festival weekend begins with an Opening Ceremony at 10:00 Saturday morning on the lawn near the Pavilion in the Garden of Reflection and will be immediately followed by the first Taiko drum performance.
World War II Days
World War II Days includes elaborate and realistic battles complete with tanks, artillery, armored vehicles, and exciting pyrotechnic displays. Saturday the battle shows are featured at 1:3 pm and 3:30pm. Sunday the battle time is 2:30 pm. More than 1,200 re-enactors represent the soldiers of the United States, Great Britain, France, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Italy and Japan. In addition to the action on the battlefields, enjoy the skirmishes in the Village and Woods, demonstrations and displays in the buildings, woods encampments and the ambiance of the beautiful venue. Maps of the event site will be available when visitors arrive.
Rockford Slide the City
Summer time is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a 1,000-foot slip-and-slide? Slide the City is coming to Rockford on September 4-5 and will be set up along the Morgan Street bridge. There will be live music, food, drinks, water, and of course the biggest slip and slide ever to hit asphalt. Make sure to bring your water buckets, floaties, and squirt guns to spray, splash, and get all attending soaked.
Coronado Performing Arts Center - Bill Engvall
Comedian Bill Engvall will be performing and filming his new special at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. The thing that makes any entertainer successful is the ability to connect with an audience. Greenwich Village Art Fair - Rockford Art Museum
Held rain or shine on the second weekend after Labor Day every year, Greenwich Village Art Fair is the longest-running art fair of its kind in the Midwest. The annual two-day event features up to 155 juried artists, live music by local musicians, a gourmet marketplace, children's art activities and food and drink.
Mosaic World Film Festival
Mark your calendar! The 8th annual Mosaic World Film Festival will be held at the J.R. Sullivan Theatre, which is located in the Nordlof Center (118 North Main St. Rockford, IL 61101) on Friday, August 28th, Saturday August 29th, and Sunday August 30th, 2015. Founded in 2008, the Mosaic World Film Festival aims to unite and promote filmmakers from all over the world through the creative and powerful medium of film. The event was started by students from the Rockford, IL area who desired to create an event that would empower young people to creatively express themselves, while providing them with the means to affect their community in a positive way.
Orangeville Education Foundation 5K Trail Run
October 3, ORANGEVILLE EDUCATION FOUNDATION 5K TRAIL RUN. Richland Creek Trailhead, 8 am. Join in a 5K run on the Jane Addams Trail to benefit the Orangeville schools. The scenic route follows Richland Creek; it is a flat, out and back course on a crushed limestone surface. Refreshments after the race for participants, plus door prizes, goody bags and more. Illinois Game and Pet Breeders Fall Swap Meet
This swap meet involves the buying, selling and trading of game birds, animals, pets and supplies. Vendors will also be available with local honey, garden plants, flowers, and a small flea market. Events opens at 6 am. Gate Fee: $3.00 per person over the age of 12.
Northwest Illinois Rock Club's 2015 Jewelry, Gem, Fossil and Mineral Show
Midwest dealers will showcase a variety of beautiful gemstones, minerals, fossils, jewelry, beads and gifts for holiday shopping. In addition, there will be lapidary demonstrations, a fun-filled children's fish pond and games, speakers and displays.
46th Annual Threshing Show and Antique Show
The Stephenson County Antique Engine Club proudly presents this annual event, "The Freeport Show". It offers over 300 antique steam and horse-powered engines, equipment, and gas engines. This year's feature is Allis-Chalmers. There will be a huge parade daily at 1 pm, a large flea market, a large display building offering home antiques, crafts, demonstrations, and farm miniatures, Gasoline Alley featuring The Rawleigh gas engines, sawmill, and blacksmith shop. There will be threshing demonstrations with both steam and gas tractors, and working demonstrations throughout the show grounds. Also, ride the Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad antique steam train. Great food is offered. Don't miss the Farmer's Hitch Class, Horse Pull or the Midwest Championship Antique Tractor Pull.
Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad and Silvercreek Museum Labor Day Celebration
All aboard the antique steam train as a 36 ton, 1912 Heisler steam locomotive pulls three cabooses, and two passenger flatcars for a four mile ride through farmlands and across a bridge 30 feet above Yellow Creek. Purchase your ticket at the Silver Creek Depot, a turn-of-the-century replica filled with railroad artifacts. Browse for novelties in the Freight House and visit the Silvercreek Museum which offers 25 rooms of early Americana, a display of antique machinery, Henney Motor Company vehicles which were manufactured in Freeport, and the operating Cooper-Corliss engine, a giant 130 ton steam engine. The Silvercreek Museum will be serving sandwiches and deserts. Train: Adults: $7; Children under 12: $3; Cab Rides available inquire at the Depot Freight House. Museum: Adults: $4; Children under 12: Free.
Join in an old-fashioned cruise through downtown from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. There will be live music by The Old 57’s on the FHN Stage, the Baumgartner Automotive food court offers a variety of tasty choices, and contests. There will be a Motorcycle parking area, two main parking lots for the classic cars, and cruising all night long. In addition, downtown restaurants PJ’s Stephenson Street Station, and the Union Dairy. PJ’s will also offer live music from 8 pm to Midnight plus they will have a pulled pork sandwich meal from 11 am until 8 pm. Souvenir t-shirts and 50/50 raffle tickets will be available at the Information Booth.
