This annual craft show features the works of more than 300 crafters and artists displayed in booths, buildings and tents at the Boone County Fairgrounds. This show has a reputation for featuring hand-crafted, quality, original work. Vendors go through a juried application process, enabling us to provide you with an outstanding display of folk art, wood carving, dried florals, pottery, painted and appliqued clothing, jewelry, fine art and much more.

Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 9th! The 35th Annual Cortland Festival and Parade will kick off at 1:00 p.m and will feature members of local bands, scout troops, clubs and other organizations. Then stay for the festival at Cortland Community Park after the parade. Vendors will offer food for purchase and there will be fun for all ages.
The NIU Huskies Football Team will play five home games at Huskie Stadium during the 2016 season. The Home Season opener is Saturday September 17th vs San Diego State. The season continues with Western Illinois on Saturday, September 25th and Central Michigan on Saturday, October 15th. Homecoming is October 22nd vs. the Buffalo Bulls and the final game at Huskie Stadium is Tuesday November 1st. NIU will also be playing a "Home" game at US Cellular Field on November 9th vs Toledo. The Beth Fowler Dance Company will present its Annual production of "The Nutcracker". Many area families have made this magical production a part of their holiday tradition every year. With the beautiful dancing, costumes and stage sets, this favorite holiday classic will tell a story that will make everyone feel like a child at Christmas.
Enjoy a holiday open house and tours of the beautifully decorated Ellwood House Mansion. Every November, the Ellwood Museum partners with area businesses, community sponsors, and volunteers to decorate the mansion room-by-room on all four floors. From November 15-30, (closed Mondays and Thanksgiving) our guided holiday tours give visitors the opportunity to see the mansion in a new light. See our VISIT page for hours and information. At the end of our touring season, we open the doors for a three-day Holiday Open House weekend December 2nd - 4th, 2016. Visitors may purchase tickets in the Visitor Center (or online) and present their tickets at the front door of the mansion. Upon entering the decorated mansion, volunteers will be stationed in each room, presenting the history of the Ellwood House and sharing information about the two generations of Ellwood family members who called Ellwood House home.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is an outrageous assemblage of the most stereo-typed science fiction movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock 'n' roll of every vintage. Rated R. Featuring the live shadow cast of "Irrational Masters". Props that are not allowed are: lighters, candles or flames of any kind, large water guns, toast, hot dogs, or prunes. The DeKalb County Quilter's Guild invites you to our biennial quilt show, October 1-2, 2016. Enjoy this year's expanding our offerings to other textile and fiber arts, such as weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, wearable art and more. The featured artist will be Lorraine Torrence, who makes wearable art and quilts, and will be presenting three lectures, "Design Principles for Quilters," "Finding Your Voice," and "Creative Clothing for Everybody." In addition to 300+ quilts on display, there will be exhibits in other disciplines and special exhibits including the Hoffman Challenge and a trunk show by SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates.) There will be demonstrations, workshops, lectures, and a vendors mall with new and longtime favorites. Food will also be available to purchase.
This collaborative exhibit explores what it means to be Hmong American. How has Hmong life changed since refugees first entered the U.S. in the 1970s? What does it mean to be Hmong American today? Through objects, audio recordings and personal stories of Hmong Americans, this exhibit immerses visitors in the material culture and social issues of Hmong American communities. The exhibition is now open and will run through December 2016. A special opening reception featuring refreshments and live music will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the museum, located in Cole Hall on the NIU campus. The event is free and open to the public. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free and all are welcome.
The public is invited to the Ellwood House Museum for a new lecture series titled “Local Lore.” Local Lore is an adult lecture series which will cover a wide variety of topics relating to DeKalb history. Each month, a different guest speaker will present these fascinating programs. All lectures take place at the Ellwood House Museum Visitor Center. Yesterday and Today is the high energy and entertaining interactive Beatles experience featuring brothers Billy, Ryan and Matthew McGuigan with a backing band. No wigs, no accents – the brothers do not try to impersonate the fab four, but rather honor the music and memories that people have attached to the legendary songs. The performers take audience requests before the show and at intermission, which drive the show; no two shows are ever the same. Audience members will be singing along and dancing in the aisles!
Think Floyd USA celebrates the music of Pink Floyd with a full-production tribute performance that showcases an energetic and phenomenally gifted cast alongside mesmerizing lights and video. Featuring nine passionate musicians and vocalists, Think Floyd USA includes several dedicated founding members who began the journey together in 2004. Deemed “absolutely amazing…the best Pink Floyd tribute anywhere” by Full Throttle Magazine and Best Tribute Band by Chicago’s Metromix fans, Think Floyd USA has been featured in Singers & Musicians Magazine, which said, “You don’t have to close your eyes to believe TFUSA is the real thing!”
October 25, 1959 then Senator John F. Kennedy gave a speech here at the Egyptian Theatre in front of a packed house. A recording of this very speech has been found and will be played for the first time on the anniversary of his speech 57 years ago. Following the playing of his speech historian, Jim Gibbons, will present the life of our 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Jim Gibbons, a Marengo, IL resident and historian, has made a name for himself teaching the importance of history. Using his passion for and strong knowledge of history, Jim offers riveting presentations on the historical events and figures.

Her third one hour special, Madigan Again, is currently available on Netflix and was named one of iTunes Best Comedy Albums. Her second one hour special Gone Madigan, premiered on Showtime and is also available on Netflix. Previously she's released 5 CDs, 3 DVDs and starred in 2 HBO specials as well as 3 Comedy Central specials.
STEMfest celebrates innovations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Northern Illinois University STEM departments, student groups, regional corporations, museums, educators, and national labs are joining forces to present hundreds of activities that range in complexity to entertain people of all ages. We hope to increase awareness of the critical role science and other STEM fields play in our world every day.
