Stained Glass Retreat
Join us for a beginner stained glass retreat and learn the art of stained glass from an Alton Legend. Artist and owner of Alton Stained Glass Works, Lynne Ulett, will be guiding beginners through glass cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering. Work at your won pace to complete a unique stained glass window or light catcher to take home as a memory of your stay at Pere Marquette Lodge. All supplies and lunch will be provided during you're creative retreat. Add this package to your room reservation for an additional $94 per person or $150 for two. Pere Marquette Rendezvous
Step back in time to the days when frontier fur trappers met with fur traders and buyers during this reenactment festival at Pere Marquette State Park. The Second Annual Pere Marquette State Park Rendezvous will be a traditional Pre-1840 event with buckskinned re-enactors portraying primitive traders and campers. There will be period demonstrations, black powder and longbow shoots, camp music and food common to days on the Illinois frontier. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.
Peach Festival at Pere Marquette
Nothing pairs better than a warm, summer day and a ripe, juicy peach! The Peach Festival will feature local farmers displaying their delicious local peaches as well as some of those famous Calhoun Peaches hand picked that morning and still warm from the sunshine. Come on out to the beautiful Pere Marquette Lodge and join us for an afternoon of fun, festivities and peaches. There will be live entertainment, craft vendors, tons of family friendly fun and all the ripe, juicy peaches you can eat!
Here is your chance to be a part of a real paranormal investigative team as they explore the paranormal claims associated with Pere Marquette Lodge. Outdoor Explorers Day Camp at Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge
For one last adventure before school starts, an Outdoor Explorers Day Camp will be help from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. August 2-4 at the refuge visitor center. This free three day, day-camp will introduce children entering grades 3-5 to various outdoors activities including hiking, geocaching, canoeing, bird watching, and much more. Space is limited, register by July 15. Children should bring their own lunch and snacks and dress to be outside most of the day.
Old Settlers Days
Calhoun County was a wild rugged land, and its fall re-enactment festival embraces its past history. Old time crafts, mountain-man activities, black powder shooting, historic demonstrations, food, music, fiddlers jamboree, carriage rides and a petting zoo round out the activities scheduled for the weekend. Monarch Butterfly Citizen Science Program at Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge
As monarch butterflies begin migrating south in late summer, Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge invites the public to become citizen scientists and report monarch butterfly sightings and seasonal changes in the environment during the Monarch Butterfly Citizen Science Program at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13. Participants should register by August 12, At this program, participants will learn the stages of a monarch butterfly's life cycle, how to watch for and report these stages, and how to attract monarch butterflies to their backyards. Then participants will have the opportunity to register to become a citizen scientist with Journey North and share monarch butterfly sightings.
Meet the Beetles Sunset Tribute Concert
Step back in time to a live Beatles concert as Meet the Beetles recreates the look, sound, and atmosphere of the Beatles with tunes such as She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand. Then travel to the psychedelic sixties with a set of later era Beatle Music, such as Sgt. Pepper and Revolution. This high-energy show includes costumes, accents, Beatle banter, authentic vintage and replica instruments, and all your favorite fab four hits. VIP seats for the over 21 crowd can be purchased in advance for $55 each and includes excellent reserved seats, 3 drink tickets and appetizers. They will be reserved based on when the seats are purchased. Non-VIP guests can take advantage of grass seating on the lawn in front of the Lodge at no charge. Lincoln Days Civil War Reenactment
Re-enactment, Antique Show & Genealogy Fair will be held together during the annual Lincoln Days, a signature event with Looking for Lincoln. Featuring a civil war battle re-enactment, period demonstrations, encampment all weekend at the scenic lake Pittsfield. Hakuna Matata River Rambler Cruise
Cruise the river, learn its history and view its geographical features during the River Rambler Tours on the Hakuna Matata, a 49-passenger all-weather tour boat. The first level of the boat is fully enclosed with large windows and is seasonally air-conditioned and heated. This traditional county fair has been around since 1856 and continues to provide fun for the whole family! Don't miss the great food, entertainment, the annual Queen and Little Miss pageants, carnival rides, sand volleyball, mud drags, truck/tractor pulls, horse racing, and commercial vendors. The Nina and Pinta, replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships will be open to the public for touring at the Loading Dock in Grafton. Archaeology magazine has called the Nina, the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built. Things are about to get "All Shook Up" at Pere Marquette Lodge, when Steve Davis performs his salute to the King of Rock and Roll. Come enjoy Pere Marquette Lodge's famous fried chicken buffet and then sit back and enjoy an hour-long tribute to the King. From the 1950's hits " Heartbreak Hotel," to his later smashes "Devil in Disguise" and "Suspicious Minds," the music of the legend lives on in this special tribute experience.
