The DeKalb County Quilter's Guild invites you to our biennial quilt show, October 1-2, 2016. Enjoy this year's expanding our offerings to other textile and fiber arts, such as weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, wearable art and more. The featured artist will be Lorraine Torrence, who makes wearable art and quilts, and will be presenting three lectures, "Design Principles for Quilters," "Finding Your Voice," and "Creative Clothing for Everybody." In addition to 300+ quilts on display, there will be exhibits in other disciplines and special exhibits including the Hoffman Challenge and a trunk show by SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates.) There will be demonstrations, workshops, lectures, and a vendors mall with new and longtime favorites. Food will also be available to purchase.
The 2017 NCAA National Golf Championships will be held at Rich Harvest Farms and hosted for the first time by Northern Illinois University, with play taking place from May 19-24 (women) and May 26-31 (men). Sugar Grove will be only the third Illinois city to host the Division I Golf Championships. Cook County’s Olympia Fields Country Club hosted the men’s championship in 1943, while Conway Farms Golf Club outside of Chicago played host to the men’s as well in 1997.
One of the largest free outdoor holiday light displays in Northern Illinois, the Festival of Lights, returns with dazzling displays that will delight both adults and children. This signature winter event is a drive-through of more than one mile of spectacular lighted displays, many of which are animated, and are illuminated by tens of thousands of bulbs. Staged at Aurora's gem, Phillips Park, the festival will be open from 5 - 9 pm Sunday through Thursday and 5 - 10 pm Friday and Saturday.
The 44th annual Autumn Craft & Treasures Market, sponsored by the Sycamore Music Boosters, is part of the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival weekend October 29 & 30, 2016. This event will be held at the Sycamore High School Fieldhouse, Saturday, October 29 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, October 30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There are over 250 vendors featuring a wide variety of quality crafts, handmade wood products, specialty items such as wool products, candles, spices, candies, antiques, ceramics and much more.
Festivities include plowing competition, English and Western horse show, arts and crafts show, children's games, ladies and junior fair auction. Food available from local area vendors and much more. Parking is free.
This all-ages family fun show features the super surfing hits of the 60's, some of the classic rock & roll of the 50's, along with popular favorites from the 70's and the 80's, as well. But it's not just the music - it's so much more. Bob and the Beachcombers bring the beach balls, the Hawaiian leis, the hula hoops, and a summertime beach-party fun attitude. Great music, dancing, audience participation, sing-a-longs, contests and all of the excitement of a beach blanket bingo down in the sand! Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 9th! The 35th Annual Cortland Festival and Parade will kick off at 1:00 p.m and will feature members of local bands, scout troops, clubs and other organizations. Then stay for the festival at Cortland Community Park after the parade. Vendors will offer food for purchase and there will be fun for all ages.
Corn Fest is one of the last, free festivals among Illinois music and summer festivals. The fest is celebrating its 39th year and is located in downtown DeKalb on Lincoln Hwy. between 1st and 4th St. Well over 50,000 people from around Illinois and the Midwest attend the music festival over a three day weekend. This festival features a 3 day soundstage with national and regional music acts, a carnival, car show, bike rally, kid fest, community stage, over 90 vendors, a free corn boil on Saturday and much more!
The DeKalb Farmers Market features locally-grown produce, wine, baked goods, flowers and artisan crafts. The market is open every Thursday (June 2nd - Sept 29th) 10am - 2pm at Van Buer Plaza on the corner of North Second & Locust St. in DeKalb.
Looking for a fun family day out? DeKalb Kite Festival is a full day of family fun. Kids will enjoy seeing the giant inflatable kites, dancing kites, and fighting kites high up in the sky. This festival attracts kite enthusiasts from all over the U.S. Come see what it’s all about! You can bring your own kite or make one here. Food and beverages will be available for purchase as well as kites. This event is free, with $3 parking, cash only.

Enjoy a holiday open house and tours of the beautifully decorated Ellwood House Mansion. Every November, the Ellwood Museum partners with area businesses, community sponsors, and volunteers to decorate the mansion room-by-room on all four floors. From November 15-30, (closed Mondays and Thanksgiving) our guided holiday tours give visitors the opportunity to see the mansion in a new light. See our VISIT page for hours and information. At the end of our touring season, we open the doors for a three-day Holiday Open House weekend December 2nd - 4th, 2016. Visitors may purchase tickets in the Visitor Center (or online) and present their tickets at the front door of the mansion. Upon entering the decorated mansion, volunteers will be stationed in each room, presenting the history of the Ellwood House and sharing information about the two generations of Ellwood family members who called Ellwood House home.
The public is invited to the Ellwood House Museum for a new lecture series titled “Local Lore.” Local Lore is an adult lecture series which will cover a wide variety of topics relating to DeKalb history. Each month, a different guest speaker will present these fascinating programs. All lectures take place at the Ellwood House Museum Visitor Center.
