2014 Rockford Midwestern - Biennial Juried Art Exhibition
The Rockford Midwestern is a biennial juried exhibition that originated as an annual showcase for local artists. The year 2014 marks the 73rd presentation of this regional show that draws the best works from artists from a nine-state region. Artists residing in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin participate. With this exhibition, Rockford Art Museum shows its commitment to presenting the breadth and depth of contemporary art in the Midwest.

Animal Mania at Lockwood Park
Join Lockwood Park to celebrate the opening of a new season, animals, and the of service men and women. Activities to be held throughout the park include hay rides, pony rides, chicken hatching, horseshoeing demonstration, horse extravaganza, and more. There will be special activities for Armed Forces Day.
Annual Black Family Reunion
For the past 20 years, the Rockford Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Inc. has sponsored the Black Family Reunion Celebration. Since its inception, thousands of individuals of every background have enjoyed this fun-filled and informative event. The event will bring individuals, consumers, corporations, communities, and government agencies together to focus on the traditions and strengths of the Black Family and, by extension, families of all ancestries. The Reunion is held at Ellis Elementary School.
Bill Maher at Coronado PAC
For the last seventeen years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television. First on "Politically Incorrect" (Comedy Central, ABC, 1993-2002), and for the last eight years on HBO's "Real Time," Maher's combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him twenty-six Emmy nominations. In October of 2008, this same combination was on display in Maher's uproarious and unprecedented swipe at organized religion, "Religulous," directed by Larry Charles ("Borat"). The documentary has gone on to become the 7th Highest Grossing Documentary ever.
Burpee Museum Exhibit - Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived
This traveling exhibit highlights the evolution, biology and misconceptions of Megalodon, an enormous prehistoric shark that once swam the world's oceans. The Megalodon shark is related to the modern great white and mako sharks and was a dominant marine predator for 15 million years before it vanished 2 million years ago.

Garden Fair 2014 at Klehm Arboretum
For more than two decades, Garden Fair has been the place to shop for flowers, shrubs, tools, outdoor art and other garden-related items. The event attracts more than 5,000 visitors every year. With over 80 exhibitors, it's the area's largest outdoor living marketplace and there's something for everyone.
Launching Laurent: a celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Laurent House
A celebration of a significant community milestone, the grand opening of the Laurent House, at Anderson Japanese Gardens – the finest Japanese garden in North America. Hosted by the board of the Laurent House Foundation, all are welcome to celebrate the Launching of the Laurent House as Rockford and Illinois’ newest museum.
Lewis Black at Coronado PAC
Grammy Award-winning stand-up comedian, is one of the most prolific and popular performers working today. He executes a brilliant trifecta as stand-up comedian, actor and author. Receiving critical acclaim, he performs over 200 nights a year to sell out audiences throughout Europe, New Zealand, Canada and United States. Lewis Black came into national prominence with his appearances on "The Daily Show" in 1996. Those appearances on THE DAILY SHOW led to comedy specials on HBO, Comedy Central, Showtime and Epix. In 2001, he won the Best Male Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards. He has released eight comedy albums, and has published three bestselling books.
OSF Heritage Run
The 30th Annual Heritage Run includes 10k (6.2 miles) and 2-mile races along with a 2-mile walk and kids' fun run. Races go through downtown and neighborhoods and finish in front of the BMO Harris Bank Center. Proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the YMCA Rock River Valley. OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is the major sponsor.
Phantom Regiment - 39th Annual Show of Shows
Experience the art of musical pageantry as the Show of Shows features some of the best drum and bugle corps in the world. This year's lineup is one of the largest in the Midwest. Along with Rockford's own Phantom Regiment, this year's lineup includes 2013 World Champion Carolina Crown along with our Midwest rivals Madison Scouts and The Cavaliers. The location is the Boylan High School stadium.
Polish Fest 2014
St. Stanislaus Parish celebrates the 33rd annual Polish Fest, featuring a traditional Polish dinner and. There will be music and dancing all day, bingo, raffles, a culture exhibit, mechanical bull, kids' games and Polish specialty foods.
Rockford AirFest 2014
The AirFest 2014 Performer Lineup includes the USAF Thunderbirds, US Army Golden Knights, Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demonstration Team (AirFest's first international performance), Team Aerostars, Team AeroDynamix, Mike Goulian, Paul Wood, John Klatt Airshows, Art Nalls Sea Harrier , Firebirds, and Dave Dacy Airshows. The AirFest takes place at Chicago Rockford International Airport.
Rockford City Market
The Rockford City Market features local growers and vendors who sell natural products and unique retail items, live music, demonstrations and kids' activities. Enjoy the fun Fridays from 3:00-8:00 p.m. May 30-October 17 (3:00-7:00 p.m. after Labor Day). Located on Water Street in Downtown Rockford.
Rockford Half Marathon and 10K
This year's event features two events: the wildly popular 13.1-mile half marathon and a sibling 10K run. In addition to Rockford area runners, the event draws participants from more than 20 states. Located just an hour's drive northwest of Chicago and a half-hour south of Madison, WI, the course route is along Rockford's scenic Rock River. It's a relaxing, yet challenging, event with two great options for runners at every skill level.
Victorian Village Opening Day and Main Street Market
As part of the Victorian Village opening weekend, the museum will play host to a new vintage market hosted by Rockford's own Urban Farmgirl. Featuring vendors from throughout the Midwest and across the country, it will be an open-air market showcasing vintage goods and one-of-a-kind artisan pieces. Guided tours of the Victorian Village as well as entrance to the Main Museum Center are also part of admission.
