This event will have daily demonstrations and displays of steam and gas engines, draft horses and pony activities, robe making, saw mill, corn shredding and shelling, cider and apple butter making, blacksmithing, steam train rides and much more. This is a family fun weekend!
The event will host over 15 hot air balloons including a 140 foot Shark balloon that goes by “Sharky” taking flight October 14, 15 & 16, 2016 at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. There will be a balloon glow, tether balloon offering paid rides, a Vietnam Veteran's Reunion, VIP seating, sponsor booths, family activities, vendors, crafters, inflatables and much more family fun.

March 16, 2015 - Bluegill Music Festival will lunch its inaugural event on July 4, 2015 for a one-day festival packed with some of country music's hottest acts. The all-day festival will be complete with Southern Illinois' largest fireworks display, along the shores of the Rend Lake Dam, in Benton, IL. The lineup includes Eli Young Band, LoCash, Clayton Anderson and more exciting acts to be announced. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 20th and can be purchased at www.bluegillfest.com and at Black Diamond Harley Davidson. Drawing fans from around the country, including Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, the festival is at the intersection of some of the nation's most dedicated country music fans. Bluegill Music Festival will feature nationally recognized BBQ vendors from around the country. Interactive entertainment for fans will also include activations, like: bags, washers, bubble soccer, Illinois longest slip n' slide, helicopter rides from Black Diamond Harley Davidson, a mechanical bull, a kids area with a large inflatable slide and the "Bluegill Lagoon", featuring a 60 x 100' VIP beach, with cabanas, private wading pools & lounge area. Additionally, Southern Illinois' largest fireworks display will begin at 9:30pm, and is free for all guest.
Cannon Park Community Market is a producer-only market that features many of the Southern Illinois region’s farmers, growers, and artisans. Wednesdays from 3-7pm at the Carterville Community Center in Cannon Park, the market provides the Tri-C area with fresh local foods, artisan crafts, and family-friendly activities.
This annual Christmas celebration encompasses the entire downtown area of Carterville. Santa and his helpers will be on hand for photos. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, caroling, chili supper, gingerbread contest, festival of trees, Sugar Plum Dance Fairies, face painting, Candy Land Path, horse and carriage rides and much much more. This event is held in downtown Carterville.
Downtown Car Show / Mt. Vernon Cruise Night - The Car Show will be located on 9th Street between Harrison and Jordan. Features cruise night, car, truck, and motorcycle show; entertainment, food, demonstrations, and a 50/50 drawing. The Car Show will have various models from "Classics" to "Modern."
Starting the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through the month of December. Come experience Du Quoin Tourism’s transformation of the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds into a magical place with lights and decorations. The event features a 1 1/2-mile drive through over $250,000 worth of lighted displays as well as decorated trees, entertainment, food, crafts and visits with Santa in the Expo Hall. The light trail opens nightly from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., and the Expo Hall will be open on the second and third weekends in December from 5:30 — 9:30 p.m. The Expo Hall features Santa’s train ride and Santa’s Workshop.
The Jefferson County Historical Village will host its annual Heritage Festival the first weekend of October. Demonstrations and old-time crafters will be on the grounds, as well as costumed docents to provide tours of the Historical Village. Food and drink will also be available for sale. There will be a church service at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Mt. Olive Church. Musical performances are scheduled throughout both days.
“Ciao” on delicious Italian food and delight in a grand parade. This week long festival will include midway rides and games, live music from award winning artists, a bocce tournament, a grape stomp, a pasta cook-off, a kids pet and bike parade, a road race and an art contest.

Each October the streets of Downtown Mt. Vernon are packed and overflowing with friends and families, live performances, incredible foods and celebrations of autumn. In its fifth year, the Mt. Vernon Fall Fest theme is "My Hometown." You'll see the theme permeating throughout the entire three-day festival where locals and visitors alike will feel at home in Mt. Vernon! Classic favorites return with exciting new events. The Tri-State Treasure Hunt, a new 5k for Special Olympics, a Car and Motorcycle Cruise-In and even a "Great Pumpkin Contest" will be held. Local brewers will be onsite throughout the weekend to offer tastings of their Southern Illinois crafts and wines.
