American Thresherman Show
This steam and antique tractor show features 5 days of great events such as antique tractor pulls, ITPA & Illinois Hot Farm Stock sanctioned tractor pulls, music, a parade and much more! Featured this year is Rumely Products Collectors 24th Annual Expo and the Allis-Chalmers Triple A Tractor Club.
Bald Eagle Tours at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge
Crab Orchard is home to six nesting pairs of resident bald eagles and their offspring. A few nesting sites are visible from public roads throughout the Refuge and eagles are spotted daily. Guided tours visit eagle nests and areas of the Refuge where eagles may be spotted. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for youth under the age of 12. Reservations are required.
Bald Eagle Watching in the Cache River Wetlands
The Cache River Wetlands offers great opportunities for eagle watching, as well as spotting other birds. The Cache River Wetland Center provides resource and identification materials to help you spot eagles and other birds in the area and along the rivers. They will provide maps and directions to the viewing station for the nest just off Illinois Route 37 off Perks road and south of the visitor's center.
The Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival features 40 hot air balloons, races, glows, tethered balloon rides, main stage entertainment, craft fair, free children's activity area and games, cardboard boat races, car show, fireworks and much more.
Balloons Over Mt. Vernon & Fly-In
The event will host over 15 hot air balloons including a 140 foot Shark balloon that goes by “Sharky” taking flight October 21, 22, and 23, 2016 at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. There will be a balloon glow, tether balloon offering paid rides, war birds, VIP seating, sponsor booths, family activities, vendors, crafters, inflatables and much more family fun.
Bandy's Pumpkin Patch
This fun Fall destination features mazes, inflatable games, face painting for the little ones, and hayrides. Grab a snack from the concession stand (try the sweet rock candy) before heading home with the perfect pumpkin. (open Oct. 1-30, 9am-6pm)
Bluegill Music Festival
March 16, 2015 - Bluegill Music Festival will lunch its inaugural event on July 4, 2015 for a one-day festival packed with some of country music's hottest acts. The all-day festival will be complete with Southern Illinois' largest fireworks display, along the shores of the Rend Lake Dam, in Benton, IL. The lineup includes Eli Young Band, LoCash, Clayton Anderson and more exciting acts to be announced. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 20th and can be purchased at www.bluegillfest.com and at Black Diamond Harley Davidson. Drawing fans from around the country, including Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, the festival is at the intersection of some of the nation's most dedicated country music fans. Bluegill Music Festival will feature nationally recognized BBQ vendors from around the country. Interactive entertainment for fans will also include activations, like: bags, washers, bubble soccer, Illinois longest slip n' slide, helicopter rides from Black Diamond Harley Davidson, a mechanical bull, a kids area with a large inflatable slide and the "Bluegill Lagoon", featuring a 60 x 100' VIP beach, with cabanas, private wading pools & lounge area. Additionally, Southern Illinois' largest fireworks display will begin at 9:30pm, and is free for all guest.
Cannon Park Community Market
Cannon Park Community Market is a producer-only market that features many of the Southern Illinois region’s farmers, growers, and artisans. Wednesdays from 3-7pm at the Carterville Community Center in Cannon Park, the market provides the Tri-C area with fresh local foods, artisan crafts, and family-friendly activities.
Carbondale Grand Fest!
Saturday August 13 Come and Enjoy Free Live Music in the heart of Carbondale! The festival will be held on Grand Ave between Wall St and Washington St. There will be a variety of musical performances along with food and beer vendors. Carterville Free Fair
The 103rd annual Carterville Free Fair will include a Twilight 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Carterville Chamber of Commerce. Sponsored by the Carterville Lions Club, the fair will be Sept. 8 through Sept. 10 at Cannon Park Midway off Greenbriar Road. The event offers carnival rides, games, free entertainment, food and more. The annual free fair parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
Cave-In-Rock Frontier Day
Cave-In-Rock Frontier Festival is held on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River. The festival, which commemorates the extensive and colorful history connected to Cave-In-Rock and the surrounding community, is an entertaining and fun filled community event. First held in the 1960’s, the celebration includes a parade, carnival, various entertainment held in the Old Opry House, food and craft vendors. A Little Miss and Mister Frontier Days and Frontier Queen pageant is a highlight as well as various other activities. Come join the festivities for a weekend of fun and entertainment.

This annual Christmas celebration encompasses the entire downtown area of Carterville. Santa and his helpers will be on hand for photos. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, caroling, chili supper, gingerbread contest, festival of trees, Sugar Plum Dance Fairies, face painting, Candy Land Path, horse and carriage rides and much much more. This event is held in downtown Carterville.
Cobden Peach Festival
Celebrate the local peach harvest, sponsored by the Cobden Lions Club. Join us for fresh peaches from local orchards, carnival rides and games, crowning of ‘Miss Peach Queen’, homemade food and peach cobbler & pie with a 5K run/walk and parade on Saturday. Free admission.
Crab Orchard Kennel Club AKC Dog Show
This Annual AKC Dog Show boasts many additional amenities. Sign up to bring your dog to the hearing clinic or get their nails trimmed while you wait. Over 100 breeds will try to make it to the Best In Show ring. There will also be vendors of dog treats, toys, beds, blankets and more.
Crappie USA Super Tournament
Crappie USA will hold one of its fishing Super Tournaments on Lake of Egypt in Marion, IL. This will be a guaranteed payout of $10,000 and prizes to winners. The tournament starts at 6:30am and will run until 3pm with a weigh-in at 4pm.
Downtown Car Show/Cruise Night
Downtown Car Show / Mt. Vernon Cruise Night - The Car Show will be located on 9th Street between Harrison and Jordan. Features cruise night, car, truck, and motorcycle show; entertainment, food, demonstrations, and a 50/50 drawing. The Car Show will have various models from "Classics" to "Modern."
Du Quoin Annual Holiday Lights Fair
Starting the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through the month of December. Come experience Du Quoin Tourism’s transformation of the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds into a magical place with lights and decorations. The event features a 1 1/2-mile drive through over $250,000 worth of lighted displays as well as decorated trees, entertainment, food, crafts and visits with Santa in the Expo Hall. The light trail opens nightly from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., and the Expo Hall will be open on the second and third weekends in December from 5:30 — 9:30 p.m. The Expo Hall features Santa’s train ride and Santa’s Workshop.

Fall Illinois Ozark Tour
Organizers have planned a one-day tour in and around Union and Jackson counties. Transportation, lunch and commemorative t-shirt are provided as part of the tour. The fall tour will commence at the Shawnee College Annex in Anna, Illinois at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016. The Fall Ozark Tour coincides with National Public Lands day. The tour will visit Shawnee National Forest sites including the Kaolin pond area where the clay for the famous Kirkpatrick pottery was obtained; Pomona Natural Bridge, one of the largest Natural Bridges in the Midwest; and the Lincoln-Douglas debate site at the old Union County fairgrounds all with interpretation by U.S. Forest Service personnel.
Fat Tire Festival
Southern Illinois Fat Tire Festival (FTF) is back for the 12th year in a row! As always we will have miles and miles of great riding, the best food in all of Ozark, IL, a plethora of free beverages, and mountains of schwag and prizes to give away. We are also continuing the CampO traditions; live music, climbing wall, vendor expo, bike demo’s, trail runs, hikes, zip lines and the totally rustic CampO cabins.
