The event is family friendly and involves a haunted 45 minute walk through the historic downtown. At about a half a dozen locations you'll stop for a few minutes to meet some characters from Long Grove's past. Some of their tales seem to jive pretty closely with real history, but other parts seem like they're lavishly embellished. Required donation of $5/adult and $3/child. Reservations are required and space is limited.

Come face to face with some of the quirkiest artifacts kept in the Museum’s Collection during MSI After Hours: Oddities and Curiosities, an adults-only evening event. For the first time, MSI is offering guests the chance to see several hand-picked rare, unique—and downright kooky—artifacts, while learning the compelling and strange backstories of these items. Enjoy an in-depth conversation, led by the hosts of WBEZ’s “Nerdette” podcast with MSI’s head curator and director of collections, Kathleen McCarthy, about these peculiar objects. Admission costs $25 and includes free parking, snacks, a complimentary cocktail, entry to MSI’s newest temporary exhibit Above and Beyond as well as Brick by Brick, Numbers In Nature: A Mirror Maze, Science Storms, YOU! For the first time this holiday season, Santa’s Magical Trolley Express will have trolley rides through downtown Evanston, and then travel back to Santa’s North Pole workshop at Little Beans Café. The odyssey begins when the little ones board the trolley. They will be greeted by Mrs. Claus and the conductor, professional performers who know how to entertain kids, and build excitement as they journey north on their polar trek. Upon arrival at Santa’s North Pole abode—Little Beans Café—they will visit with old St. Nick, get a picture and let Santa know what they hope to find under the tree. Next comes cookies and cocoa with Mrs. Claus, some exciting Yuletide games with the elves and a special surprise.
