Starved Rock Country presents Legends Tribute
The Legends Tribute is a musical tribute to the stars. This year's performers will be all about rock, soul and country; performing as Elvis Presley, Barry White and Johnny Cash.
Beer Pairing Dinner
Held at Duffy's Tavern in Utica, Friday Aug 21 at 7pm. Hosted by Founders Brewing Company, the dinner consists of six courses, each paired with a different beer. The old fashioned restaurant has a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere and the old time Irish antiques and music give you the feeling of being in Ireland!
Mazon Creek Fossil Tour
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about the environment, ecosystems, and climate of Northern Illinois as it was 300 million years ago by collecting fossil specimens at the Mazon Fossil Beds. The adventure begins with a hayride to the original site of the discoveries along the Mazon Creek as it was in the mid-1800s and the opportunity to collect the unique concretions such as ferns and horsetails. Bring a bucket, rock hammer, shoes to wear in the creek, and casual clothing. Everyone will have specimens to take home to remember the day. Afterwards, more fun is to be had with cocktails and al fresco dining to celebrate your finds. All proceeds will go to the Canal Corridor Association to help preserve I & M Canal history, protect its environment, and create tourism.
Enjoy this special "Lincoln Tea" afternoon tea at Lock 16 Café on Tues., Oct. 6th from 2-4pm, which includes a full array of tea sandwiches, scones with Devonshire ceram and jam, a variety of sweets and, of course, tea from The Republic of Tea.
The Art & History of Falconry
Join local falconer Rich Escutia as he discusses the art and history of falconry. Live hawks! Program starts at 12:30 p.m. and lasts one hour. Held at the Visitors Center at Starved Rock on Sunday, August 2nd.

Have you ever wondered if the animal eating your tomatoes was an opossum, a fox, or a squirrel? Well in this Animal Tracking workshop you will learn to identify critters by the footprints they leave on the earth. Sun., Aug 23rd at 1pm at Starved Rock.
Wine Down Wednesday
Take a break in the middle of the week and enjoy us on the Veranda for wine tasting, plus relaxing Jazz by the Wes Hausken Trio from 6-8 pm. Complimentary appetizers are also part of the fun! Survival Workshop- Native Survival
How did native peoples survive comfortably and with ease from what they gathered and made in the wild? Well, it's time to find out! Make rope from local plants. Practice hunting with the oldest technique known to humankind. Craft a bow drill set and try your hand at making fire by friction. See many reproducible tool demonstrations like traps, snares, the hand drill, and native bowls, as well as getting shelter ideas. Dinner and a Little History: Gurdon Saltonstall Hubbard The Swiftwalker
Hubbard was 18 when he arrived in Chicago in October of 1818 as a clerk working in the fur trade. After the fur trade ended in Illinois, Hubbard built the first brick commercial building, opened the first meat packing plant in Chicago, helped create the Chicago Board of Trade and the Union Stockyards. He campaigned for and was later appointed as a commissioner responsible for building the I&M Canal. In his long and active life, Gurdon Hubbard saw Chicago grow from a town of four and a half houses, a fort and a Potawatomi town, to more than a half million people by the time of his death in 1886. Speaker: Gary Mechanic, veteran tour guide and storyteller for Friends of the Chicago Portage will bring his story to life. The second annual CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) On-The-Air weekend will be held August 8th and 9th from 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m. both days. The Starved Rock Radio Club will be hosting this event at the West Shelter by the Lodge. Starved Rock State Park had 3 camps; 614, 1609 and the 2601. The call sign will be W9MKS. Valley Carvers Woodcarving Expo
The 27th Annual Valley Carvers Woodcarving Expo returns to Starved Rock Lodge (Great Hall & Starved Rock Room). See over 100 exhibits of woodcarving artists. Starved Rock Walkers Club
Join the fun on our weekly, guided hikes! Explore Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, the I & M Canal and a nearby Nature Preserve. Every Thursday morning, year round, the Starved Rock Walkers Club meets in the lobby of the Lodge and departs at 9:00 am. Hikes last between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the destination. The hikes vary each week and over a 4-month period, the group will see the entire park. Make some new friends and learn about wildlife, wildflowers and more. This event is free and open to the public. Please note: We will not hike on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve. Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Every Thursday (year round).
Starved Rock Paint and Wine Class
What could be better than an evening of wine, music and art, with you as the artist? Enjoy a relaxed painting session with family and friends, or come alone and meet new people. Instructor Melody Best has developed a new and fresh approach to an early 19th century art painting technique; Theorem painting. No painting experience necessary. Evening includes: all of the painting materials you will need, glass of wine, snacks. Everyone will finish a ready-to frame painting to take home.
