Dinner & A Little History: Female Spies of the South
Led by a host of mostly female scholars, new research has revealed that women were involved in the Civil War efforts of both the North and the South, in ways most people never expected. Speaker: Amanda Fesperman of the Illinois Valley Community College has been studying women in politics and history for the past 25 years and will lead an informative and fascinating discussion.

Route 66 Kiwanis Art Fair
The inaugural Route 66 Kiwanis Art Fair in Romeoville, Illinois, on Aug. 22 will include a tribute to late Route 66 artist Bob Waldmire, and also will have a musical tribute to singer Nat King Cole, who popularized Bobby Troup’s song “(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66." The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center in Romeoville, and features live music, a children’s tent, food booths and giveaways. Proceeds will fund charities and scholarships for area youth programs.
Black Harvest Film Festival
From August 8 through September 3, the Gene Siskel Film Center invites Chicago to celebrate the 21st edition of the “Black Harvest Film Festival,” exploring the stories, images, heritage, and history of the black experience in the U.S. and around the world through film and video. Talent is the key word in describing “Black Harvest:” an abundant manifestation of creativity representing emerging filmmakers and established masters alike. “Black Harvest” most especially promotes dialogue, and we feature many personal appearances for audience discussion.
Winter Holiday Hayride
Our annual holiday hayrides will feature the food, fun and traditions from the pioneers of North America. We'll ride on our decorated hay wagon through the streets of Palos Heights singing Christmas carols then return to the Nature Center to enjoy food, crafts and other activities. Registration and payment to be made in person or by mail no later than the Monday before hayride. $8 per person.
The Blue Island Farmers Market, which features a wide variety of fresh foods straight from the garden, starts Monday, July 6th and runs through September 28th. It will go from 3:30 to 6:00 pm at the Metro South Park.
A River Through History - The Des Plaines Valley Rendezvous
A River Through History is a living history reenactment of early American life at Columbia Woods Forest Preserve, as it was on the Illinois frontier prior to 1848, with emphasis on our local history from the fur trade era to the canal era. An exciting, entertaining and educational experience for all ages. We strive to create a better understanding and appreciation of our history by allowing the public and the reenactors to mingle, both as witnesses and participants, in our event. Finally, we seek to have the most authentic and highest quality reenactors and trade goods to represent our vision of the rendezvous to promote and enhance the historic, recreational and economic development of this new style National Park.

Join the Village of Romeoville Parks & Recreation Department for another exciting RomeoFest from Thursday, August 6 - Sunday, August 9, 2015. Romeofest is a family-oriented event that consists of a variety of entertainment for all ages, great food, bingo, and carnival rides. Activities include fireworks on Friday and Sunday evenings, children's entertainment, food vendors, and bean bag, tennis and softball tournaments. The food booths, beverage garden, bingo, and main stage entertainment will be held on the Municipal Center Grounds, 1050 W. Romeo Rd. Carnival rides and attractions will be held on the Recreation Center Grounds, 900 W. Romeo Rd. Family entertainment and fireworks will be located at Village Park, 900 W. Romeo Rd.
