Ghost stories at the Mansion and a walking tour of Ottawa's notorious haunted spots. Reddick Mansion is one of Ottawa's greatest treasures. Built in 1858, this three story, 22-room Italianate mansion was possibly the most expensive private home in Illinois at that time.

Saturday Night Star Gazing
Bring your family out to Katz Park for a FREE overnight event on Saturday, August 8th. Enjoy learning about the night sky with astronomers from NIU's Observatory who will have telescopes for viewing planets and constellations. Bring some snacks, blankets, and sleeping bags to enjoy watching the night sky change before your eyes. The experts on hand will be available to answer your questions, and education activities will be provided throughout the night by NIU STEM Outreach and Dekalb Park District Staff.
Easter Seals 5K Run/Walk for the Kids
Pull out your running shoes because Easter Seals of LaSalle and Bureau Counties' annual 5K Run/Walk for the Kids will kick off during Ottawa's Riverfest festivities, Saturday Aug. 1. The 5K Run/Walk for the Kids starts and ends at Ottawa Township High School, 211 East Main St., Ottawa. Check in and race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m., runners start at 8:00 a.m. The run/walk follows a USA Track and Field certified course, winding through the historic east side of Ottawa including the scenic Illinois and Michigan Canal passage. 99% of all money raised at this event remains local, helping local children to achieve their maximum potential. Pre-registration is open now on line at www.runsignup.com. The registration fee is $25 until July 24 and $30 after. Easter Seals will be offering a new shorter race just for for kids immediately following the 5K awards at Ottawa High School. The race is $10 and each child that participates will receive a t-shirt and prize.

Green Fair on the Fox features an eco-marketplace, local businesses, physical fitness and sustainable, healthy living. This year Green Fair on the Fox is bringing back The Alternative Transportation Show and Bike Expo, Exhibition Space at City Hall and Fox Valley’s Largest Zumba class.

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert: Voilà Viola
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting. The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. KSO presents it's Fall Concert, Voilà Viola on Saturday, October 10th at 7:30 pm. The concert will be at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, and there will be a free pre-concert lecture in the hall.

Tickets for Richard Marx will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 12 at 10:00 AM. Ticket prices are $25.00, $35.00 and $65.00.
DeKalb County Farm Stroll
The Illinois Extension office for Boon, DeKalb and Ogle Counties is hosting a DeKalb County Farm Stroll on Sunday, July 19th from 11 am - 5 pm. Wondering where to find local food & farm products in DeKalb County? Satisfy your local food cravings and curiosities on the DeKalb County Farm Stroll! A free self-guided tour of more than a dozen diversified family farms. Some of the farms participating are: Jonamac Orchard, Waterman Winery & Vineyards, Heatherhope Farm, You Pick Berries and Honey Hill Orchard. Each location will have different events going on, but the stroll will allow participants to meet local farmers, get farm tours and demonstrations, sampling of fresh local products, and more. There is no starting location for the stroll, guests are welcome to visit as many or as few as they would like and in whatever order they would like. Taste of Batavia Block Party

City of Morris Concert on the Courthouse Lawn

Calling all girls who want to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), this is your chance to experience Northern Illinois University's beautiful campus and to learn more about these important subjects. Join STEM Divas for a very special, one day summer camp on Tuesday, July 21st from 9 am - 4:30 pm. STEM Divas is an initiative geared towards creating a community of confident female leaders and learners age seven and up who embrace femininity while using hands-on activities to explore science, technology, engineering, and math. During this day-long camp, divas will learn how to solder, take a tour of NIU’s engineering building, use a variety of tools to complete their very own woodworking project, and more! The cost for this camp is $70 per diva, including lunch and materials. There is not a residency requirement, all students that fit the camp age specifications are welcome to register. Have a little fun while you learn this summer. Parents, while your child is exploring STEM, you can explore DeKalb County and all it has to offer.
