The Great Carbondale Pumpkin Race is a chance to have fun and raise money for a local charity by designing, building, and racing your very own Pumpkin Racer! Build the fastest racer you can, or go nuts with the most original design you can think of! Saturday October 29th at 1:00pm!
Ironclad Art: The Motorcycle is a family friendly event using the outdoor Sculpture Park at Cedarhurst as an exhibition area to recognize the motorcycle as a sculptural object and a vehicle for self-expression. This event is unlike any other bike show in southern Illinois as it strives to capture the history and culture of motorcycling.

Southern Illinois Fat Tire Festival (FTF) is back for the 12th year in a row! As always we will have miles and miles of great riding, the best food in all of Ozark, IL, a plethora of free beverages, and mountains of schwag and prizes to give away. Crab Orchard is home to six nesting pairs of resident bald eagles and their offspring. A few nesting sites are visible from public roads throughout the Refuge and eagles are spotted daily. Guided tours visit eagle nests and areas of the Refuge where eagles may be spotted. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for youth under the age of 12. Reservations are required.
Crappie USA will hold one of its fishing Super Tournaments on Lake of Egypt in Marion, IL. This will be a guaranteed payout of $10,000 and prizes to winners. The tournament starts at 6:30am and will run until 3pm with a weigh-in at 4pm.
Fly With The Eagles Half Marathon is organized by the River to River Runners Club and is the club's first race on the calendar each year, coming in the late winter season for a cold-weather half marathon that takes runners along the roads and trails of the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
The Jefferson County Historical Village will host its annual Heritage Festival the first weekend of October. Demonstrations and old-time crafters will be on the grounds, as well as costumed docents to provide tours of the Historical Village. Food and drink will also be available for sale. There will be a church service at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Mt. Olive Church. Musical performances are scheduled throughout both days.
Annual Recreational League Soccer Tournament for ages 5 to 18. Hosted by Marion Soccer, Inc. and held at the Marion Soccer Complex. This invitational tournament will bring over 100 teams from six states to play for the Whirlwind Title.
The 26th Annual Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days will be held at John A Logan College. It is the largest celebration of Hunting and Fishing Day in the country. This 200+ vendor show offers something for the whole family. Bass Fishing and Crappie seminars, catfish contest, Goose calling contests, Dock Dogs competitions, retriever demonstrations and a kids fishing hole are just a few of the activities throughout the weekend.
