Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America
The 7,500-square-foot “Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America” exhibition at the Chicago Botanic Garden features trains running on 1,600 feet of track, for train and garden enthusiasts to enjoy the delightful sights and sounds of the miniature trains traversing high and low through tunnels, across bridges and around buildings.
Ravinia Festival 2016

Chicago Botanic Garden- Weekend Family Classes
Together, adults and children can explore cool things about how plants connect to science, art, history, and culture. Each program includes a variety of hands-on activities and projects, as well as opportunities to bring the Garden home. Programs run from November through April on Saturdays.

Outside, 750,000 lights sparkle and welcome you and your family to the Garden's wonderland. Inside the Regenstein Center, a 10,000-square-foot exhibition of miniature trains winds over bridges, under trestles, past waterfalls, and through more than 80 mini-replicas of Chicago's favorite landmarks. Paul Busse, designer of the Model Railroad Garden, created this amazing exhibition exclusively for the Garden's holiday celebration.
Port Clinton Art Festival
Port Clinton Art Festival is one of the most successful juried art festivals and attracts more than 250,000 art enthusiasts from places near and far. More than 260 of the world’s most celebrated artists come together to showcase their work over the course of the weekend, creating an atmosphere brimming with renowned creativity. Alongside established artists, a youth art division celebrates the talents of young artists ages 18 and under, offering them the opportunity to participate, exhibit, and experience the inner workings of an art festival.
The Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival
The Great Highwood Pumpkin Fest will boast fan favorites including all you can carve pumpkins, Trick or Treating, costume contests, Pumpkin Parade, hay rides, pony rides, petting zoo, carnival rides, kids crafts, two stages jam packed with solid entertainment, food and beverage vendors galore and a Superhero 5K Pumpkin Run/Walk. As always, all lit jack-o-lanterns will be placed on pumpkin walls throughout the Festival grounds, with ceremonial wall lightings Friday and Saturday nights, and the grand lighting on Sunday evening.
Highwood's Evening Gourmet Farmers Market
Held at Everts Park, this feast of local produce, gourmet cheeses, homemade pastas, baked goods, breads and pastries, and a variety of Italian, Mexican, French, and Irish delicacies offers something for everyone. With its Evening Concert Series and live cooking demo's in the Gourmet Chef's Corner, this energetic farmers market has become a tradition for friends and family looking for great food, spirits and entertainment. Additionally, Art in the Park will be back for its second year, showcasing local artists, unique jewelry, fashion, and art, alongside 60 vendors.
Join the 6th annual Fort2Base Race. There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Mile or 3 Nautical Mile events (11.5 miles or 3.45 miles). The 10NM event begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, runs along the North Shore Trail and finishes within the confines of Naval Station Great Lakes. The 3NM event is run solely within Naval Station Great Lakes. All registered participants receive a tech shirt and finishers medals. Runners and walkers welcome!

7th Annual Bloody Mary Fest

Highwood's 5th Annual Garlic Fest
This fun, food-filled event showcases the ever-popular taste of Garlic. Attendees come to sample a variety of garlic creations from out-of-the-ordinary garlic ice cream, candy, cupcakes and cocktails, to the more usual pastas, sauces, breads, and butters. Held during the Evening Market, the fest features a Taste of Garlic Competition for the Savory and Sweet categories, as well as the very popular Garlic Queen and Princess Competitions. Joshua Bell & Chris Botti With the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia
Tonight's program features lifelong friends sharing the stage with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Botti made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1981 as part of the All American High School Jazz Band; Bell debuted there three years later as a soloist with the Saint Louis Symphony. Botti won a Grammy in 2013 for his album, Impressions. Come out for an evening of terrific tunes and virtuosic delights.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra With Special Guest Jeffrey Kahane at Ravinia
George Gershwin convincingly weaved that most American genre, jazz, into the fabric of a modern orchestra with his Rhapsody in Blue, the original version of which popular pianist Jeffrey Kahane will play and conduct from his keyboard. He will also bring to bear the work of Leonard Bernstein, the enormously talented classical conductor and pianist who brought grand-scale, symphonic sense of occasion to the American Broadway stage in West Side Story.
