2016 Harvest of Quilts and Textile Art Show
The DeKalb County Quilter's Guild invites you to our biennial quilt show, October 1-2, 2016. Enjoy this year's expanding our offerings to other textile and fiber arts, such as weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, wearable art and more. The featured artist will be Lorraine Torrence, who makes wearable art and quilts, and will be presenting three lectures, "Design Principles for Quilters," "Finding Your Voice," and "Creative Clothing for Everybody." In addition to 300+ quilts on display, there will be exhibits in other disciplines and special exhibits including the Hoffman Challenge and a trunk show by SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates.) There will be demonstrations, workshops, lectures, and a vendors mall with new and longtime favorites. Food will also be available to purchase.

New York’s Blood, Sweat & Tears, inspired by The Buckingham’s newly-coined “brass-rock,” is popular for hits like “Spinning Wheel,” “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” “And When I Die.” The original group’s heavy-on-the-horns and pop-rock-fusion sound still rings loud and clear at every single live show.

Alan Jackson ranks as one of the 10 best-selling male vocalists of all-time in all genres. He is one of the most successful and respected singer-songwriters in country music. Jackson’s current album, Angels and Alcohol, topped the country album charts when it was released last summer. Lauren Alaina captured America’s hearts when she appeared on Season 10 of American Idol. Recently Lauren released a self-titled five-song EP including her latest single, “Next Boyfriend.” Lauren regularly appears on the Grand Ole Opry, is one of CMT’s “Next Women of Country” and returned to American Idol for its farewell season as a mentor to this year’s contestants.
Presented by NIU and the City of DeKalb, ARTigras is a Celebration of the Arts. The event will consist of an arts parade, a post-parade party featuring music, crafts and games, Art Gallery shows and receptions, evening concerts and…new this year…an opening night “March to Bourbon Street” event at the Egyptian Theater featuring dance and theatrical performances, live music and an art exhibit.

Beach Boys & The Temptations: Surf & Soul Tour
There’s no better way to celebrate the summer than experiencing the band that literally created the beach rock sound live. And there’s no better place to do it than right on the banks of the Fox River. Calling The Beach Boys “legends” is an understatement. Their multi-layer harmonies, unmistakable 1960s surf rock sound and laid-back style launched them into worldwide fame, while simultaneously shaping the future of pop music forever. We like our surf with a side of soul, so joining The Beach Boys are the smooth, the soulful, and the funky Temptations. Known for their Motown smash hits “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.” Gates open at 5:30 pm - show starts at 7:00 pm. Bring your lawn chair and be early!
Bike MS Tour De Farms
Thousand of cyclists to participate in Bike MS: Tour De Farms in DeKalb. Bike MS: Tour de Farms is one of the largest fundraisers of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Illinois Chapter. Children under 12 years old are invited to participate in a special Bike MS course exclusively for junior riders. All children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older and submit a $15 registration fee. Also on Saturday, five Chicago-based bands will perform from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Residents of DeKalb and the surrounding communities are invited to attend. Registration for Bike MS is open to individual riders, teams, volunteers and virtual riders.
Biking with Beanzie
Biking with Beanzie is a recreational ride presented by Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb and sponsored by Kishwaukee Community Hospital.The ride route consists of primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain with estimated ride options of 23, 43, 63, 80, or 101 miles. All roads are well-paved, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor. This year also includes 3-mile, 5-mile, & 8-mile community bicycle pathway route options.
To coincide with our current temporary exhibit ‘Bird’s Eye View’ which ends on June 1st, visit us on Saturday, May 28th at 11 am for Bird Bonanza! In conjunction with the Fox Valley Wildlife Center come explore the various differences in birds with us. Investigate how observing birds in flight helped humans to develop machine flight and see what birds call Illinois home. $5 for members and admission plus $3 for non-members.

Cristina Pato has opened historical new paths for the Gaita (Galician bagpipe). In 1998 she became the first female Gaita player to release a solo album and since then has collaborated with many high profile world music, jazz, classical and experimental artists including the Chicago Symphony, Yo-Yo Ma, The Chieftains, Arturo O'Farril, World Symphony Orchestra and Paquito D'Rivera. Her powerful style of passionate playing has been acclaimed by The New York Times as "a virtuosic burst of energy" while the BBC crowned her "the Galician bagpipe diva." Show starts at 8 pm.

DeKalb County Barn Tour
The DeKalb County Barn Tour is a one-day driving tour of barn sites within DeKalb County hosted by the DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Association and the JF Glidden Homestead & Historical Center. Participants will receive a map Guide Book containing hand-drawn sketches of each barn and the barn’s history, style and use. Participants drive to each location in any order for a tour of the barn(s), including many interiors. Purchase your event ticket at any of the seven locations. Admission is $20 per vehicle (buses extra) (Museum members receive a 25% discount). Bus groups are welcome.
