The Cache River Wetlands offers great opportunities for eagle watching, as well as spotting other birds. The Cache River Wetland Center provides resource and identification materials to help you spot eagles and other birds in the area and along the rivers. They will provide maps and directions to the viewing station for the nest just off Illinois Route 37 off Perks road and south of the visitor's center.
Cannon Park Community Market is a producer-only market that features many of the Southern Illinois region’s farmers, growers, and artisans. Wednesdays from 3-7pm at the Carterville Community Center in Cannon Park, the market provides the Tri-C area with fresh local foods, artisan crafts, and family-friendly activities.
The 104th annual Carterville Free Fair will include a Twilight 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Carterville Chamber of Commerce. Sponsored by the Carterville Lions Club, the fair will be Sept. 7 through Sept. 9 at Cannon Park Midway off Greenbriar Road. The event offers carnival rides, games, free entertainment, food and more. The annual free fair parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.
This annual Christmas celebration encompasses the entire downtown area of Carterville. Santa and his helpers will be on hand for photos. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, caroling, chili supper, gingerbread contest, festival of trees, Sugar Plum Dance Fairies, face painting, Candy Land Path, horse and carriage rides and much much more.
