Join the 6th annual Fort2Base Race. There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Mile or 3 Nautical Mile events (11.5 miles or 3.45 miles). The 10NM event begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, runs along the North Shore Trail and finishes within the confines of Naval Station Great Lakes. The 3NM event is run solely within Naval Station Great Lakes. All registered participants receive a tech shirt and finishers medals. Runners and walkers welcome!
Highwood's Evening Gourmet Farmers Market
Held at Everts Park, this feast of local produce, gourmet cheeses, homemade pastas, baked goods, breads and pastries, and a variety of Italian, Mexican, French, and Irish delicacies offers something for everyone. With its Evening Concert Series and live cooking demo's in the Gourmet Chef's Corner, this energetic farmers market has become a tradition for friends and family looking for great food, spirits and entertainment. Additionally, Art in the Park will be back for its second year, showcasing local artists, unique jewelry, fashion, and art, alongside 60 vendors.
7th Annual Bloody Mary Fest
Judged by a host of celebrity experts and real people, professional and amateur mixologists compete for the title of Best Bloody Mary in the Midwest. In it’s seventh year, the festival includes the very popular 5K Buddy Challenge, live entertainment, plenty of food vendors, beverages, and more! This event is held at Everts Park from 10am-5pm.
Highwood's 5th Annual Garlic Fest
This fun, food-filled event showcases the ever-popular taste of Garlic. Attendees come to sample a variety of garlic creations from out-of-the-ordinary garlic ice cream, candy, cupcakes and cocktails, to the more usual pastas, sauces, breads, and butters. Held during the Evening Market, the fest features a Taste of Garlic Competition for the Savory and Sweet categories, as well as the very popular Garlic Queen and Princess Competitions. Attracts 5,000 attendees. Free to attend.
Celebrate the Great Lakes Naval Station's 104th Birthday
Come and celebrate the Naval Station's 104th Birthday in a big way! Enjoy two full days of "fire-cracking" festival fun at one of the biggest celebrations in the region! Each day the celebration will include three stages of exciting live music and family entertainment, a bingo tent with thousands of dollars worth of prizes, a craft fair with handmade items, the Gridiron. Experience with interactive football activities including a "Kicks for Cash" competition, the Kid's Zone with plenty to do for children of all ages, roving entertainment/costumed characters, thrilling carnival rides and games, a 5K Twilight Run, delicious festival food and beverage booths all available from local area vendors, and lots and lots more! Then enjoy the amazing firework displays that will take place this year on both July 3rd and 4th! Free admission. Thursday hours 3pm-11:30pm and Friday hours 12pm-10pm.
Redhead Days Chicago Festival
Redhead Days Chicago Affiliate 2016 will feature two days of live music, local food vendors and food trucks, beer, wine and other red-themed cocktails and soft drinks, a Carrot Cake Throwdown, (will insert any other sponsored activities such as How To Be a Redhead), petting zoo, pony rides, bounce houses and other activities for all ages. Admission is free, but ask all Redheads to register to track attendance of the most Redheads gathered in one city. All activities held at Everts Park in Highwood.
