Fever River Railroad Fall Open House
For model railroad aficionados-and everyone else who ever enjoyed model trains-this is something to see. The Fever River Railroad is a 103 by 24 foot HO scale model of a hypothetical railroad. The railroad intersects with models of "real" railroads, each of which can be operated independently. Up to 20 trains can be operating at one time. Industries along the railroad right-of-way duplicate either actual facilities or are typically correct of the industries that would be found in the Upper Midwest. The scenery represents the geographical area as well. A collection of railroad memorabilia and pictures are on display.
Shelby County 4H & Jr. Fair
One of only a few fairs that still highlight their 4H and Juniors. The fair includes dog care and obedience, judging in livestock, poultry, rabbits, lambs, produce, flowers, plants, and many other subjects. The Food Shack serves plenty of great food each day of the fair manned by the various 4H Clubs in Shelby County. The fair wraps up with the popular livestock auction and team penning.

Civil War Saturday: A Question of Loyalty
View a performance of "A Question of Loyalty," an original play about the 1864 Charleston Riot. It remains outside of the draft riots, the bloodiest confrontation on union soil between soldiers and citizens during the Civil War. The original play by Earl Halbe play focuses on a personal story between of the actual participants in the riot. Mendota Sweet Corn Festival
Tons of free, hot, buttered, delicious Del Monte sweet corn will be the highlight of the 67th annual Sweet Corn Festival to be held in Mendota, Illinois on August 7, 8, 9, 10. The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the gigantic undertaking of hosting over 60,000 visitors, who consume nearly 50 tons of sweet corn during the festival weekend. Don't miss the excitement for the festival offers a variety of entertainment events for the entire family. The events take place primarily in the downtown area, and with the exception of the beer garden, have no admission fees or parking fees. Free musical entertainment is in abundance. The Crafters Market Place and flea market features over 200 dealers in hand made crafts and unique merchandise. There is a Queen Pageant, beer garden with live bands, grand parade and a carnival with rides and games for both adults and children, plus much more. The midways are lined with food booths, featuring a multitude of ethnic, regional and festival foods, but the "BIG EVENT" is the serving of the free Del Monte sweet corn on Sunday afternoon. For over 65 years, it has been cooked to its golden goodness with the help of a vintage steam engine. If you would like to take some of the memories of Mendota's Sweet Corn Festival home with you, the Mendota Chamber will be selling fresh Del Monte sweet corn by the bag on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the festival. The good times are waiting, the welcome mat is out, come to Mendota for one of the Midwest's oldest and largest harvest festivals, the 67th annual Sweet Corn Festival.

Browse for novelties in the Freight House and visit the Silvercreek Museum which offers 25 rooms of early Americana, a display of antique machinery, Henney Motor Company vehicles which were manufactured in Freeport, and the operating Cooper-Corliss engine, a giant 130 ton steam engine. The Stadium at the Ballpark
The Stadium at the Ballpark at Rosemont is the 2,000-seat home of the Chicago Bandits, the 2011 NPF World Champion women's softball organization, East Leyden High School's girls softball team and the Rosemont School's boys and girls softball team. It is located on the west side of 1-294, and is the first facility of its kind in the nation built expressly for women's professional sports. The team plays 25 home games a year, from June through August.

Glidden Homestead Patent Day Celebration!
Joseph F. Glidden was granted a patent on November 24, 1874 for "The Winner," what became one of the most-widely used types of barbed wire in the nation. It all began on the Glidden farm, at the time “a mile west of the City of DeKalb.” Joseph began searching for a better fencing method after his wife, Lucinda, complained about livestock getting into the yard. Chicago Auto Show
The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. All Chicago Auto Show exhibits are held in the McCormick Place complex. Harvest Frolic Fall Celebration
Celebrate the arrival of autumn with Lincoln Log Cabin’s annual Harvest Frolic on Saturday and Sunday, September 27-28 from 10am to 4pm daily. Activities will take place at both the Lincoln and Sargent farms including children’s games, doll making and hearth cooking. There will also be a three-legged race, a cast iron skillet toss, two-man saw contest and a “dipping cup race” and a special scavenger hunt will be open to children 12 years of age or younger. Visitors are encouraged to take part in these period games and activities. Demonstrations, food, period music and entertainment along with our featured visiting artisans will round out the weekend programing.
60th Art Fair on the Square
