A River Thru History is a living history reenactment of early American life, as it was on the Illinois frontier prior to 1848, with emphasis on our local history from the fur trade era to the canal era. The goal of this rendezvous is to be the premier event of this type in this area by creating an exciting, entertaining and educational experience for all ages. To this end, we strive to create a better understanding and appreciation of our history by allowing the public and the reenactors to mingle, both as witnesses and participants, in our event.

Now in its 39th year, this festival hosted by the McHenry County Historical Society and Museum features Civil War re-enactors along with live music, old-fashioned cider making and barn-raising demo. During the festival, the museum, the Gannon 1843 log cabin and the 1895 West Harmony one-room school will be open and free.
Alley Art Festival is a unique, fun-filled afternoon in downtown Aurora that highlights the local, creative community and brings out all ages to enjoy a day of art, music, and spectacle. More than 65 artists will be part of this year’s festivities along Water Street Mall, a tree-lined walkway sandwiched between Aurora’s City Hall on Downer Place and Culture Stock on Galena Boulevard. Artists set up tables along Water Street Mall to sell their art. Artisans and makers are also part of the festival. The 2017 NCAA National Golf Championships will be held at Rich Harvest Farms and hosted for the first time by Northern Illinois University, with play taking place from May 19-24 (women) and May 26-31 (men). Sugar Grove will be only the third Illinois city to host the Division I Golf Championships. Cook County’s Olympia Fields Country Club hosted the men’s championship in 1943, while Conway Farms Golf Club outside of Chicago played host to the men’s as well in 1997.

The Sycamore 10K Pumpkin Run is headed into its 38th year! Feet will hit the street Sunday, October 30th at 9:05am. The 10K is held during Sycamore Illinois’ world famous Pumpkin Festival. This race has become a staple in the Northern Illinois race schedule. In 2015, we had over 1,800 participants running. Awards are given to the top three finishers in 11 age groups!

One of the largest free outdoor holiday light displays in Northern Illinois, the Festival of Lights, returns with dazzling displays that will delight both adults and children. This signature winter event is a drive-through of more than one mile of spectacular lighted displays, many of which are animated, and are illuminated by tens of thousands of bulbs. Staged at Aurora's gem, Phillips Park, the festival will be open from 5 - 9 pm Sunday through Thursday and 5 - 10 pm Friday and Saturday.

2016 is the 55th Annual Sycamore Pumpkin Festival downtown. What started out as an idea by Wally Thurow in 1956 to offer something creative for the students of Sycamore, has grown from a neighborhood display on his front yard into the towns biggest city wide event beginning on Wednesday with the Opening Ceremony and cake cutting. The festival begins with over 1000 entries in the Lions Decorated Pumpkin Display, 2 carnivals, 2 large indoor craft shows, many non-profit vendors, and culminating with an hour and a half long parade on Sunday.
Pumpkinfest will be held September 24-October 31, 2016.
