The Chicago Rat Pack "One Swingin' Night"
Egyptian Theatre - DeKalb, IL. For over 18 years, the unforgettable trio (Frank, Sammy and Dean) excited audiences nightly at the Copa Room and the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. These wonderful performances have been recreated with remarkable accuracy. Critics all proclaim “One Swinging Night” as being as close as any person could come to experiencing the original Rat Pack. With so much talent on stage together, these wild wonderful performers would set the standard tone for all those who came to Vegas throughout the Swinging 60's. How could these performances be anything less than historical? The Chicago Rat Pack’s show, “One Swinging Night” is perhaps one of the few special productions that shall become as timeless as the actual counterparts (Sammy, Frank and Dean). This fantastic show transports its audiences to a time when life was a lot less complicated. “One Swinging Night” is a brilliant reenactment of the “Summit.” This was the period at which all three of the magnificent super-stars were at the prime of their wonderful careers. At times, these three actors seem to transcend reality by totally becoming the characters they portray. Along with this and the fact that each member of this cast is very talented in his own right makes “One Swinging Night” a show that must be seen!

On the Brink: New Work by Nnenna Okore
EAM presents new work by internationally celebrated sculptor Nnenna Okore. Through repetitive, labor-intensive processes, Okore transforms discarded and organic materials like burlap, newspapers, plastic bags and twine into large-scale wall hangings and installations. Okore-s dramatic and undulating forms float in and across space, often casting shadows on their surrounds. Influenced by the textures, colors and landscapes of her Chicago milieu as well as the more rural environment of the small town in Nigeria where she was raised, Okore's new fiber and paper works explore the fluidity of life, finding beauty in the inevitable processes of aging and decay. Okore is a professor of art at Chicago's North Park University and was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2013.

A telling look at the industrialization of America, this photographic exhibition from the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY reveals the circumstances that poor working children endured until legislation against child labor prevailed as late as 1938. Lewis Wickes Hine (American, 1874-1940) was a sociologist whose photographs captured his abiding concern for children, immigrants, and working-class people. He was hired by the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) in 1906 to document the harsh conditions in which children worked. Hine spent ten years photographing in the canneries, coal mines, cotton mills, farms, and sweatshops common during the early 20th century. Through the use of photography, Hine and the NCLC gained the attention of government officials and aroused public sentiment against child labor practices in the United States.

Driving in Style: Promo Cars of the 1950s and 60s
The innovative and flamboyant car designs of the 1950's are now iconic. To whet consumers' appetites for the "latest thing," the Big Three American automakers (General Motors, Ford and Chrysler) began to release new models with slightly redesigned features every year. To promote the new vehicles, dealers distributed highly-detailed plastic models or "promos." Like their full-size versions, these colorful miniatures boasted streamlined tail fins and polished chrome grilles, reflections of the period's Space Age design and general prosperity. Given to potential buyers and their children, these salesman's samples are highly collectible today. Lent by Robert Reinhold and John O'Halloran, the promos in EAM's presentation will be on view in the McCormick House, also designed in the 1950s.
