Frankfort Half Marathon
The Frankfort Half Marathon will begin and end in the beautiful historic district of downtown Frankfort. The race will commence right outside the door of Running Excels on the Old Plank Trail and run westward. After 2.7 miles of running on the scenic, tree-lined Old Plank Trail, the racers will turn off into the Hickory Creek Forest Preserve. The rolling hills of the forest preserve will provide a picturesque tour for the runners as they reach the halfway and turn-around point in the race. The runners will then proceed back through the forest preserve and to the Old Plank Trail for their final journey towards the finish line and the post-race party on the Breidert Green. 7AM.

Art Exhibition by Karen Gubitz
A solo art exhibition by Karen Gubitz will be on display March 9th-27th in the Wadsworth Family Art Gallery, located on Lewis University’s main campus in Romeoville. The free exhibit is open to the public and will be on display from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Gubitz is a self-taught, nature-inspired, mixed media/fiber sculptor. Three years ago, Gubitz retired from her full-time career to begin her life as a full-time artist. She has been accepted into and won several awards at various fine art exhibits, galleries and fine craft shows around the country, including Woman Made Gallery in Chicago and The American Craft Exposition in Evanston. Among the numerous awards, she’s won are the Collector’s Award at The Washington Craft Show in Washington D.C., third prize at the Michigan Fine Art Competition, the Artist Choice Award at CraftBoston, an honorable mention at the Water Street Gallery in Batavia, the Award of Merit at Laumeier Sculpture Park and Best in Show at the Oak Park Art League. Gubitz will also conduct an informal Gallery Talk at 7 p.m. March 12 in the Art Gallery at the reception of her show.
Cinco de Mayo Restaurant & Bar Crawl
Join us in the global celebration of Mexican culture! The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta is a food and bar crawl that will feature live entertainment, food and libations and fun for the 21+ crowd. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at event headquarters at La Quinta de Los Reyes Restaurant. Participation in the crawl is $15 pre-sale and for BDC members. Festival 2015: The Power of Music - Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra
The Power of Music is a dynamic, weekend-long exploration of the powers derived from music. The festival opens with the screening of a powerful new film documenting the use of Beethoven's 9th Symphony to affect change in different cultural and social contexts. Day two starts with an afternoon lecture by renowned musicologist, Jason Geary, on the power of music to persuade and its uses in mass media, and finishes with an evening recital by acclaimed Venezuelan pianist, Gabriela Martinez. The festival concludes on day three with a showcase of the power of music to enrich and enhance the lives of young area musicians, with a showcase of local talent. Festival passes are $50, and include admission to all events.

This year’s event will be Saturday, May 2, from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, May 3, from 8 AM to 3 PM. Sponsored by the twelve communities which make up the 90-mile linear museum from Joliet to Towanda, the annual festival invites everyone to experience the good life in the slow lane. Each community will produce its own events. From full-blown festivals to antique and craft sales, art sales, car and motorcycle shows, live entertainments, and plenty of yard, garage, and sidewalk sales along the way, everyone is sure to discover something unique. Food, snacks and treats will be in abundance, and there are plenty of historic sites, outstanding free museums and unique mom & pop businesses to help create a nostalgic journey for all to enjoy. Visitors can simply enjoy the drive, stop and have their picture taken with Elvis, or do a little shopping in any of the great stores along the Mother Road.
Bye Bye Birdie
To conclude its 2015-2016 season, Drury Lane Theatre presents the classic All-American musical Bye Bye Birdie. It's the late 1950's, and teenagers from across the United States are going crazy for the handsome rock star, Conrad Birdie. Meanwhile, his manager Albert is going into debt and is banking on Conrad's success. Disaster strikes when Conrad receives a draft notice to join the military. Albert stages a publicity stunt for Conrad to kiss one lucky fan on The Ed Sullivan Show before he leaves for the army. Fifteen-year-old Kim MacAfee from Sweet Apple, Ohio is selected. Conrad Birdie gets more than he bargained for when he arrives in the Midwestern town which is reeling with excitement for his visit.
