Tour-goers will be the first to see the transformation of the former First Baptist Church sanctuary into an opulent great hall decorated in the tradition of Downton Abbey, the famous PBS series. Guests will enjoy complimentary sparkling cider as they explore the hall, now a new event center. They will be invited to pose for selfies with life-size cut-outs of Lady Mary and other favorites from the TV show. Six private homes decorated in the Downton-style will be open to the public. The Weber House is decorated in a style reminiscent of a prosperous 18th century home. As was the custom, decorations are homemade from greens, pine cones, fruits, flowers and assorted sweets. The Christmas trees, although common today, are not historically accurate. They did not come on the scene until Queen Victoria. And then they were small table top trees. Picosa is a new Chicago-based mixed chamber ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano). Noted for its signature symphonic sound and virtuosity, Picosa presents an eclectic variety of works from baroque to contemporary, and soloist to full chamber ensemble. The ensemble’s unique approach to programming presents celebrated masterworks from across the centuries and around the globe. Picosa concerts are community gatherings, with lively conversations after every event. Picosa is also committed to nurturing rising young musicians through our Interludes Chamber Ensembles program, where student and amateur musicians play in pre-concert performances, and through our workshops, concerts, and residencies at local colleges. Prior to joining the CSO in 1993, he performed for ten years with the Saint Louis Symphony. Linc Smelser, a member of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, is on the faculty of Northern Illinois University as well as the Music Director of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Brant Taylor, a former member of the Saint Louis Symphony, has been a member of the Chicago Symphony since the 1997-1998 season. He also teaches at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of the Performing Arts and performs with the band Pink Martini. Enjoy a free concert by the critically acclaimed Avalon String Quartet where they will be playing Dutilleux: Ainsi La Nuit, for String Quartet & Beethoven String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132. The Avalon is quartet-in-residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music, a position formerly held by the Vermeer Quartet.
Since its founding in 2010, the Common Thread Contemporary Dance Company has rapidly become a highly respected professional dance company, with a national reputation for the high quality, artistic variety, grace and strength of its programs. Known for its accessible and uplifting performances, the company's goal is to better the community, and to bring joy and happiness to the audience. Founded in 1999, the Equinox Chamber Players ensemble is one of the area's most dynamic chamber music groups. The music of Equinox has a unique flair, featuring both traditional and recent works. The ensemble continues to build new repertoire for the woodwind quintet every year by commissioning new works and arrangements, championing new voices from the U.S. and around the world.

The oldest surviving capitol building in Illinois is putting on its best holiday duds and throwing the doors open to the public. Visitors to the Vandalia Statehouse State Historic Site will find the building illuminated by more than 250 candles and trimmed with decorations appropriate to the 1840s, when a young Abraham Lincoln served there. Decorations include fresh greenery and fruits.

The annual Holiday Lights Parade, when people full of anticipation line the streets of Harrisburg, is geared to excite and entertain. This night time parade has many floats, farm and other vehicles decorated with brilliant holiday lights.
Winter Games is one of 9 state sports competitions. It is the culminating competition for those participating in Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing. Winter Games is hosted at Chestnut Mountain in Galena, IL. Approximately 400 athletes will compete in this 3-day event and show off their winning form!

The tradition of the Western Illinois University School of Agriculture Ag Mech Club's Farm Expo continues this year with its 47th annual event Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 4-5. It was in 1970 the Ag Mech Club started what has become the largest student-run agriculture show in the U.S., the annual WIU Farm Expo—which many refer to as the "Ag Mech Show."
