NIU Art Museum Embarrassment of Riches Reception & Talk
Northern Illinois University Art Museum presents Embarrassment of Riches, a group exhibition of six Midwest artists curated by Peter Olson, exploring themes of sustainability opening August 25 and running through October 24, 2015 at the Art Museum's galleries in Altgeld Hall on Northern Illinois University’s DeKalb campus. Romp in the Park - Maple Park Fun Fest 5K
Come Romp in the Park for the Maple Park Fest 5K race or a 2 mile walk. There are several age groups for the 5K with awards. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants and all participants will receive a ribbon. There is an early registration discount, but registration will also be available the day of the race.
Kingston Kardboard Ragatta
Come watch as participations in the Kardboard Boat Regatta try and paddle their boats made out of cardboard down the Kishwaukee River. Trophies and prizes will be handed out for the Fleet-of-the-Fleet (fastest boat to complete the race), the fastest boat in the Head-to-Head race, the Titanic Award (most spectacular sinking), Pirates of Pizzazz (crew with the most spirit), Flamboyancy Award (most outrageously decorated boat), and Kishwaukee Ferry Award (most passengers in the boat). This is a fun family event. Come cheer on your favorite crew.

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting. The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. The KSO will present its annual free concert of music with a theme appropriate for children and adults. The 5:30 concert will be repeated at 7:30, and there will be trick-or-treating in the building a half hour before the 5:30 concert. The concerts will take place at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.
Eagle Watching Open House
Visit Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge to learn about bald eagles and how to watch for them, then venture out to watch for eagles with a refuge ranger. Experienced eagle watchers will be set up with viewing scopes at various locations at the wildlife refuge. Kids crafts will be available at the visitor center. James Lumber Center Present The Diviners
In this marvelously theatrical play, a widowed farmer is raising his son Buddy during the Great Depression. Buddy almost drowned as a child and is still terrified of water, even though he’s blessed with the ability to divine its location. When a disillusioned preacher, C.C. Showers, comes to the farm seeking employment, a unique bond develops between the troubled but gifted Buddy and a man who represents salvation to the beleaguered townspeople. C.C. devotes himself to helping Buddy and his efforts precipitate a startling chain of events.
Rockford Speedway - National Short Track Championships
This season's edition of NSTC features a wide array of short track racing machines and drivers from across the country converging on Rockford Speedway, vying for a chance at glory on Rockford's famed ‘high banks.' Annual Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival

Comedian Mike Epps - BMO Harris Bank Center
Mike Epps steadily climbed his way up the stand-up comedy ranks when he was recognized by a national audience in 1995 when he appeared on the Def Comedy Jam tour and HBO's Def Comedy Jam. During a performance at LA's Comedy Store, Epps caught the attention of Ice Cube. This led to the first of three feature films the duo would do together; the cult hits "Next Friday," "Friday after Next," and the New Line comedy "All About the Benjamins." Jackson Browne at Coronado PAC
Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007. Annual Quilt & Church tour
Quilts are displayed in several historical churches in the Villages of Kampsville, Hardin and Brussels. Beautiful quilts that belong to the residents of Calhoun County are on display in the Churches along with quilt exhibits and activities in Church Halls. Calhoun County communities join together to share the beauty and history of quilts that have been in local families as far back as the 1800s. There are over one hundred(100) quilts on display in the various locations. A brief history of each quilt will be provided so visitors can appreciate the craftsmanship and stories that are uniquely associated with them. Greek Fest 2015
Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church will be filling downtown with the sounds of Greek music and the tantalizing aromas of Greek delicacies. Join us for music, dancing (both modern and traditional Greek), food, Greek and domestic beers and wines, baked goods, desserts, religious and other Greek themed items for sale, a raffle drawing, and tours of the church. Local band, Men of Our Times, will get everyone up and moving from 7:00pm to 10:00pm Friday night.
James J. Eldred House Fall Festival
Historic Greene County is coming alive with people, places, and objects from the past during the annual James J. Eldred House Fall Festival. The festival will be held September 12-13 at the James J. Eldred House Historic Site. This year our Civil War reenactors will return and present new battles and educate about the times and equipment used. We will once again be hosting our Eldred Family Ice Cream Social and our annual Eldred Family Ball. We will also have have period vendors and music by The Fieldon Spring Band. Naper Settlement Oktoberfest
Be part of an annual autumn event that celebrates our community’s heritage. Family-friendly activities will be available on Saturday from noon-5 p.m. The entrance to the festival will be through the Pre-Emption House Visitor Center. Colors over the Confluence
Celebrate the start of Fall at the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower during the popular Colors Over the Confluence! Itchy Brothers Wood Carvers will be on hand to demonstrate their chain saw carving skills. Visitors will be able to purchase completed chainsaw art throughout the day. A variety of craft vendors and food vendors will also be on site. The festival is free. There is a charge to tour the Tower.

Balloons Over Mt. Vernon & Fly-In
The event will host over 15 hot air balloons including a 140 foot Shark balloon that goes by “Sharky” taking flight October 16, 17, and 18, 2015 at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. During this fun-filled event for all ages at the Wildlife Discovery Museum, meet live crocodilians, including Bubba the world famous American Alligator who will be on hand until 2pm.
