The Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival
The Great Highwood Pumpkin Fest will boast fan favorites including all you can carve pumpkins, Trick or Treating, costume contests, Pumpkin Parade, hay rides, pony rides, petting zoo, carnival rides, kids crafts, two stages jam packed with solid entertainment, food and beverage vendors galore and a Superhero 5K Pumpkin Run/Walk. Join the 6th annual Fort2Base Race. There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Mile or 3 Nautical Mile events (11.5 miles or 3.45 miles). The 10NM event begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, runs along the North Shore Trail and finishes within the confines of Naval Station Great Lakes. The 3NM event is run solely within Naval Station Great Lakes. All registered participants receive a tech shirt and finishers medals. Runners and walkers welcome!

The 38th Annual Alpine Races
Presented by the Alpine Runners, this is a 1/2 Marathon, 5K Run/Walk, Youth Mile, and also offers kid's races. Something for all runners and the whole family. The races run through the streets and along the shores of beautiful Paulus Park in Lake Zurich. Gatorade, water, and time splits will be available along the course. Food and drinks will be available to participants at the finish line. No dogs, strollers, bikes, rollerblades or headphones are allowed in the races please.

The Blue Whiskey Independent Film Festival will be presenting its 2015 festival from July 24 – 31 at AMC Randhurst 12 in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Each film selected for exhibition and competition is screened in one theater over the course of eight days. Judges experience each film for the first time along with the audience.

North Shore Festival of Art
This festival has a long and rich history in the North Shore. Located in the Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie, the North Shore Festival of Art is a free, three-day fine art festival showcasing approximately 140 juried artists from all across the United States and Canada. The artists display stunning works in a large variety of mediums, including painting, photography, jewelry, fiber, glass, wood and more for sale at the festival.
Illinois Holocaust Museum Exhibit - Nazi Olympics: Berlin, 1936
Coinciding with the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the 1936 Games, Nazi Olympics tells an important historical story. Given that sports play a powerful developmental role in the lives of so many youth and adult athletes, this exhibition expands on many important themes—racism and discrimination, propaganda, fair play, and ethical decision making—allowing the public to personally connect to the history and lessons of the Holocaust and relate them to present day Olympics and human rights issues.
