A Sandwich Christmas / Festival of Trees
Christmas fun begins in Sandwich! On Saturday, tour Sandwich with the Sandwich Association of Merchants “Tour of Homes.” Stop by the Festival of Trees at Timber Creek Inn & Suites and experience the magic of a holiday wonderland filled with an assortment of delightfully and uniquely decorated trees. Holiday musical entertainment is scheduled at various times throughout this free festival. Be sure to visit the Holiday Lane Craft Show and Home Business Showcase located in the convention center for a perfect holiday shopping opportunity. Also on Saturday, Secret Santa Shopping fun will be at the Sandwich Opera House. The Sandwich Old Mill Museum will be open to the public. Begin an evening of delight with the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Veterans Park and Railroad Streets. Enjoy a real carriage ride from Veterans Park. Take the trolley tour and participate in the decorating contest.
Colgate Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular Featuring Meryl Davis and Charlie White
Olympic Champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White will headline the Colgate Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30pm. The cast will feature the most decorated dance team in U.S. figure skating history, 2014 Olympic champions and two-time World champions Davis and White. More gymnastic stars as well as a special guest singing star will be added as the event draws closer. In addition, an Olympic dream team will host the show in DeKalb: Olympic figure skating Champion Kristi Yamaguchi, three-time U.S. Champion Michael Weiss, and Olympic gymnastics Champions Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner. Tickets will be available at the Convocation Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000. Ticket prices range from $28.00 to $78.00. NIU Students/faculty get a $10.00 discount with NIU OneCard (Limit 2) at the box office.
Winter Lights Aurora
The Merriest And Cheeriest Of Seasons Starts With Winter Lights! As the City of Aurora’s official kick-off to the holiday season, this family oriented event will be filled with merry making moments and a sleigh full of free fun for the entire family! The event starts with the Holiday Parade ushering in the jolly old elf himself, Santa along with Mrs. Claus. It’s followed by a grand fireworks display along the banks of the Fox River. Cock-A-Doodle Brew Fest
A one of a kind festival celebrating craft beer, wings and live music and benefiting Operation Support our Troops. The inaugural event will be held at the Hollywood Casino in downtown Aurora from 12 pm-4 pm. Cock-A-Doodle Brew Fest will be offering an atmosphere like no other. Breweries from around the United States will be available for tastings and a variety of food will be available for purchase. This exhibition is part of the Art Museum's fall series examining contemporary artists’ exploration of relevant social issues in today’s world.

Romp in the Park - Maple Park Fun Fest 5K
Come Romp in the Park for the Maple Park Fest 5K race or a 2 mile walk. There are several age groups for the 5K with awards. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants and all participants will receive a ribbon. There is an early registration discount, but registration will also be available the day of the race.

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra which provides a place for area musicians to use their talents in an orchestral setting. The orchestra consists of professional, student, and dedicated amateur musicians. The KSO will present its annual free concert of music with a theme appropriate for children and adults. The 5:30 concert will be repeated at 7:30, and there will be trick-or-treating in the building a half hour before the 5:30 concert. The concerts will take place at NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert

Kingston Kardboard Ragatta
Come watch as participations in the Kardboard Boat Regatta try and paddle their boats made out of cardboard down the Kishwaukee River. Trophies and prizes will be handed out for the Fleet-of-the-Fleet (fastest boat to complete the race), the fastest boat in the Head-to-Head race, the Titanic Award (most spectacular sinking), Pirates of Pizzazz (crew with the most spirit), Flamboyancy Award (most outrageously decorated boat), and Kishwaukee Ferry Award (most passengers in the boat). This is a fun family event. Come cheer on your favorite crew.

Glidden Homestead and Historical Center Hammer-In
See how blacksmiths work by hand with red-hot steel to create graceful pieces of beauty and elegance at the Glidden Homestead. On Sunday, September 13, 2015, starting at noon, the Blacksmith Club at the Glidden Homestead and Historical Center will host a Hammer-In. The Blacksmith Club will work on six forges around the site and will demonstrate the trade, techniques, materials, and finished pieces. The twenty minute lessons and demonstrations will continue throughout the day. In the days before hardware and home-improvement stores, Blacksmiths worked with 2000 degree steel forming and shaping it. They made useful and essential objects as well as ornate decorative objects. Also on Sunday, you can tour the home where Joseph Glidden and his family lived when he created his most famous invention, see a working onsite blacksmith shop, and walk where Glidden walked. Admission is $4 per adult and free for children younger than 14.
