5K run/hike through Oakdale Nature Preserve with varied terrain and acres of oak and hickory woodlands, restored prairies and shallow streams. Runners and hikers will encounter wide tree-lined trails, moderate hills, prairie, bridge crossings and a few single track trail sections.

Autumn Pioneer Festival
Travel back to the 1800’s and learn about the lifestyles and crafts of the day. Watch a blacksmith working at his forge, talk to voyageurs, settlers and buckskinners. Explore a wigwam in the Native American area, visit two authentic 1800’s log cabins, a one room schoolhouse and 5 ethnic gardens. Enjoy the sights as you tour the grounds on a horse drawn wagon. Learn to throw a tomahawk, use a cross cut saw and play old time games. Listen to live music throughout the day. Sample apple butter and bean soup cooked over an open fire. Food vendor offerings include prairie chicken, pioneer fries, buffalo stew, pie and ice cream, doughnuts, popcorn, old fashioned root beer and lemonade. These are just a few of the many fun activities offered at the festival.
Autumn Splendor Quilt Show
Over 400 quilts will be on display. There will be a silent auction, also quilt vendors and food concessions are available. Quilt raffle tickets will be sold at the door for the drawing on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Bald Eagle Watching in the Cache River Wetlands
The Cache River Wetlands offers great opportunities for eagle watching, as well as spotting other birds. The Cache River Wetland Center provides resource and identification materials to help you spot eagles and other birds in the area and along the rivers. They will provide maps and directions to the viewing station for the nest just off Illinois Route 37 off Perks road and south of the visitor's center.
Barn Quilts of DeWitt County Bus Tour
Gearing up for our fourth year of creating barn quilt magic in DeWitt County. Throughout the county, vibrant, hand-painted 8’X8’ quilt blocks on ‘wooden canvases’ adorn numerous barns, making a drive through the countryside all the more enjoyable. Bus tours are on the first Saturday in June and October from 9am - 1pm.
Basket Weaving - Weaving with Natural Elements
A relaxing beginner class with Leesa Tipton, that will teach you the art of basket weaving. Anyone can sign up regardless of skill level. This will be a beginner level basket where everyone will take home their finished basket. Project will be a small basket with a wooden base that will hold a Yankee Candle (not included) and woven with materials from common plants from local gardens. There will also be plenty of time for visiting and sipping wine. Included is all the weaving materials needed and a glass of wine and snacks. Class can accommodate 20 people and reservations are required. 6:30-8:30pm 7/10 & 9/18 at The Studio - Cattails.

Cave-In-Rock Frontier Day
Cave-In-Rock Frontier Festival is held on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River. The festival, which commemorates the extensive and colorful history connected to Cave-In-Rock and the surrounding community, is an entertaining and fun filled community event. First held in the 1960’s, the celebration includes a parade, carnival, various entertainment held in the Old Opry House, food and craft vendors. Chicago Auto Show
The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. Christmas at the Farm
The Lyon farm and village is operated by the Kendall County Historical Society. For two Sundays in December, kids get to experience what an old time Christmas was like. Tables are set up with eight different holiday crafts. This exciting day includes a train display around the Christmas tree and naturally, they get to meet, and have their picture taken with Santa Claus. A story teller will read some holiday classics and they can enjoy roasted chestnuts. Chili and hot dogs are available for sale. Dec. 7 & 14 1-4 pm.

Let the staff plan the route and do the driving so you can enjoy light displays in our fully enclosed trolley. The trolleys are heated but you may want to bring along an extra blanket. Each tour will have a guide to get into the holiday spirit through some Christmas carols and songs. Tours run from 6-8pm and reservations are a must.

Begin your holiday celebration escaping from the chaos of the season and experiencing the enchantment of Christmas at the "Christmas Wonderland" holiday light display. The "Grandpa Gang" has been at it again transforming Rock Springs Park in Alton, Illinois into a Winter Wonderland. Visitors can drive through the park to view more than 2 million lights, cascading waterfalls of lights, lighted trees and displays, and visit Santa Claus in the Enchanted Forest. Christmas Wonderland 2009 will be open from November 27th through December 27th. The suggested donation is $7 for cars and small vans or $1 per person for vehicles holding more than 10 people. Columbus Day Weekend Fall Colors Kayak Tour & Beach Campout
Camp out on the wooded, sandy beaches of the Illinois River. A potluck dinner on the beach, will be followed by a movie, via a pico projector, under the stars. During this fun-filled event for all ages, you can meet live crocodilians, including Bubba the world famous American Alligator who will be on hand until 2pm. The expert staff and members of the Chicago Herpetological Society and the Madison Area Herpetological Society will give short talks about crocodiles and their kin, while also providing some close up encounters with a variety of reptiles. There will also be kid-friendly activities, face painting a story teller, craft vendors, the WDC’s Wildside Store, food and refreshments.
