Take a 45-minute shuttle to spots along the Mississippi River to try to spot some eagles. Pick up will be at the Alton Visitor Center with stops scheduled for Maple Island, Heron Pond, Ellis Island and at the Audubon Center. The shuttle will return to the Alton Visitor Center for drop off. These tours are $5 a person. There will be a guide on board the shuttle who will provide tips on how to eagle watch this season. Join refuge rangers from Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge for a morning of eagle watching. Visit multiple areas at the wildlife refuge that are known for eagles. A personal vehicle will be needed. Fly With The Eagles Half Marathon is organized by the River to River Runners Club and is the club's first race on the calendar each year, coming in the late winter season for a cold-weather half marathon that takes runners along the roads and trails of the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
This annual reenactment of late-1700s Illinois life on the frontier prairie features blanket traders, merchants, military units, fife and drum corps, and period-style food from more than 20 vendors. The encampment offers military drills, mock battles, along with story telling and children's activities.
Visit the old world featuring a tipi encampment, black powder shoots, pre-1840 demonstrations, bow-shoots, tomahawk and knife throwing, primitive fire-starting and 1840 trade goods.
