It gained special significance as one of the few buildings to survive the destructive path of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The City Gallery regularly presents art and photography exhibitions.
Chicago Interiors explores extraordinary interior spaces in Chicago presented through notes, models, and material boards from designers responsible for them. As a city that famously rose from the ashes of the Great Chicago Fire, Chicago literally rebuilt itself as an international center for commerce and trade, as well as a burgeoning cultural epicenter. Since the fire, Chicago has retained the old and intermingled it with the new. Like the buildings in this city, interiors have shifted with the times -- from the dust of commerce, slaughterhouses, and industry, buildings were reborn and repurposed time and again as both public and private spaces with new buildings abutting and intermingling with the old. Chicago Interiors showcases new and the re-envisioned.

Forms of Imagination
Forms of Imagination explores the way Arts + Public Life creates ambitious public design and architecture projects that foster creative communities in Chicago's mid-South Side. The exhibition and related programs shift the gaze from design product to design process, giving audiences and visitors the opportunity to examine how Arts + Public Life uses its spaces, programs and other resources, as well as its unique partnerships with local artists, designers, students, youth, business owners to enhance the built environment, cultural landscape and livability of Washington Park. The exhibition will include projects by Carlos Rolón/Dzine, PORT Urbanism, Mikel Patrick Avery, as well as the leading architects’ visions for the Green Line Art Center, a future arts space on Garfield Boulevard.

Guided Tours of the Charnley-Persky House
The Society of Architectural Historians will expand the tour program of its National Historic Landmark headquarters, the Charnley-Persky House, during the Chicago Architecture Biennial. Guided tours of the house will be offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. from October 7 through December 23. Designed by Louis Sullivan of the firm Adler & Sullivan (1891–1982), the Charnley-Persky House is one of the few extant buildings that displays the combined talents of Louis Sullivan and his then-draftsman, Frank Lloyd Wright. The Charnley-Persky House is recognized as a seminal house in the development of modern residential design as well as a keystone in the architectural philosophies of Sullivan and Wright. These tours further SAH’s mission by promoting meaningful public engagement with the history of the built environment.
