The City of Highwood is honored to once again transform into Pumpkin Fest headquarters. Join the 4th annual Fort2Base Race. There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Mile or 3 Nautical Mile events (11.5 miles or 3.45 miles). The 10NM event begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, runs along the North Shore Trail and finishes within the confines of Naval Station Great Lakes. The 3NM event is run solely within Naval Station Great Lakes. All registered participants receive a tech shirt and finishers medals. Runners and walkers welcome!
2014 Buddy Challenge & 5K Run/Walk
The race will start in front of Bent Fork Bakery at Sheridan Road and Walker Avenue in downtown Highwood. Participants will pair up and be put to the test doing push ups, calisthenics, the fireman carry, buddy drag, piggyback carry and the consisting of 100 upper body and 100 core exercises, and plenty of running in between! This race is not about the fastest time, it’s about putting yourself to the test, having fun, and taking pride in your efforts while working as a team!

71st Annual National Sweetcorn Festival
Diligence, family, and a whole lot of corn! Each and every Labor Day weekend, for the past 70 years, the Hoopeston Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) hosts the National Sweetcorn Festival. Classic American festival events include a midway full of carnival rides, games, and stands of delicious fried goodness, smashing cars at the demo derby, and a grand parade featuring marching bands, pageant queens, and plenty of candy. Being the National Sweetcorn Capital of the World, Hoopeston has to have their own unique twists to the festival. An antique steam engine cooks more than 50 tons hot buttered sweetcorn and is served up to approximately 20,000 visitors over the course of the weekend free of charge! With a line that wraps around the park, it is clear that Hoopeston really does sweetcorn the right way, the best way.

Hutson Massacre Pageant
The only outdoor presentation of its kind in the area. The pageant depicts the early settlers coming to what is now Crawford County and the forming of the town of Hutsonville. The town, township and creek were all named for the massacred first family, the Isaac Hutson's. Featuring also music and food - bring your lawn chairs. Team Demolition Derby
The Tournament of Destruction demolition derby season concludes with Pink Night, featuring the Ladies of Team Demolition Derby in support of breast cancer awareness. This Team Demolition Derby is the fifth and final of the bone-crushing events at Route 66 Raceway’s Dirt Oval in 2014.

Light Up the Holidays Parade and Festival
Light Up the Holidays Parade and Festival is held on the Friday following Thanksgiving each year. Activities begin at 10:00am and include the Renaissance Center Fun Fair, activities in the Joliet Historical Museum, Joliet Public Library, Gji's Sweet Shoppe, Jitters Coffeehouse, Chicken-N-Spice, The Red Goose Bakery and more. The Annual Festival of Trees held yearly inside the Rialto Square Theatre also add to the holiday festivities. Tree Lighting begins at 5:15pm in Van Buren Plaza Followed by the Light Up the Holidays Parade at 5:30pm.

Throughout the Kankakee County Museum, Christmas trees are decorated by community organizations. Yearly, a special theme is added for your enjoyment. Come in and view the different arrangements and vote for that special tree.
Gun & Sport Show

Fall Art Stroll
For one day each fall, downtown Kankakee is transformed into a center for arts and entertainment. The Art Stroll brings together artisans from all over the Midwest, including painters, photographers, jewelry makers, potters, glass makers, and a variety of music and performance artists.
Kankakee County Fair
Let's spend a day at the Fair. Go to the time-honored livestock shows, play some games, enter contests, enjoy the exciting live entertainment, be brave and ride on the carnival rides, or feast on the fair food but don't forget to see the demolition derby or rodeo.
Kankakee County Speedway
Fun-filled racing action roars through Kankakee County on Friday nights. The Kankakee Motor Speedway hosts seasonal stock car racing, including UMP Late Models, UMP Modified, UMP Street Stocks and the I-Mods.
Kankakee history comes to life with the guided history walk through Mound Grove Cemetery. Actors will portray historical figures sharing their lives and times in Kankakee County. Tours are at 11 a.m and 2 p.m.
Autumn Splendor Quilt Show
Over 400 quilts will be on display. There will be a silent auction, also quilt vendors and food concessions are available. Quilt raffle tickets will be sold at the door for the drawing on Sunday at 4 p.m.
You will see many hand crafted items made by the creative minds of the artists that made all of these beautiful items. Original art work will include water color and oil paintings, blown and fused glass creations, woodworking, jewelry, hand knits, porcelain paintings and other media.
BBQ Fest on the River
