Dozens of hummingbirds should be present to "wow" the observers. After the birds are captured and banded (through special permits), visitors may wish to adopt one (for a $5 donation to the Lincoln Land Association of Bird Banders, sponsor of the event) and have the privilege of releasing it back to the wild. Those who adopt birds will receive an attractive signed certificate and will be notified if their bird is ever recaptured. Held at the Trail of Tears State Forest pavilion, Jonesboro, 9:00 am to noon. There is no charge for the event.

Monarch Butterfly Citizen Science Program at Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge
As monarch butterflies begin migrating south in late summer, Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge invites the public to become citizen scientists and report monarch butterfly sightings and seasonal changes in the environment during the Monarch Butterfly Citizen Science Program at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13. Participants should register by August 12, At this program, participants will learn the stages of a monarch butterfly's life cycle, how to watch for and report these stages, and how to attract monarch butterflies to their backyards. Then participants will have the opportunity to register to become a citizen scientist with Journey North and share monarch butterfly sightings.

Outdoor Explorers Day Camp at Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge
For one last adventure before school starts, an Outdoor Explorers Day Camp will be help from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. August 2-4 at the refuge visitor center. This free three day, day-camp will introduce children entering grades 3-5 to various outdoors activities including hiking, geocaching, canoeing, bird watching, and much more. Space is limited, register by July 15. Children should bring their own lunch and snacks and dress to be outside most of the day.

The Fog Lights at Jacoby Arts Center

Northern Illinois University and the University of Toledo will play in the "Huskie Chi-Town Showdown," the first football game in the 25-year history of U.S. Cellular Field, on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. The Great Godfrey Triathlon
The Village of Godfrey will host its second annual Great Godfrey Triathlon in the end of August 2016. All athletes are encouraged to participate in this swimming, biking, and running competition. The course will consist of a open swim in the pond at Glazebrook Park, a 14 mile bike race through picturesque Godfrey and a 5K trail run. Early race packet pick up will be available on Friday, August 26 from 3 - 4:30 pm at the Godfrey Village Hall. Packets will also be available for pick up on the day of the race beginning at 5:30 am onsite. Awards will be handed out for the top three male and female finishers in each age division in addition to the top overall male and female finishers. The Great Godfrey Triathlon is participating in the muniTri series in association with Fleet Feet. Entry fee includes a souvenir t-shirt and complimentary lunch. This free, family-friendly event celebrates the Aurora community and its burgeoning arts and cultural scene. NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl
One month after the swing event on the points tour, both the NMRA and the NMCA roll into Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois, over the weekend of July 28 – 31, 2016. This is the only event where the NMRA and NMCA compete against each other for the ultimate bragging rights! The 11th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing is one of the crown jewels in ProMedia organization’s family of events. Beautiful, historic cars in a beautiful, historic setting – that’s the promise of 19th Annual Antique Car Exhibition on Aug. 6 at the David Davis Mansion State Historic Site. More than 75 cars from the 1900s through the 1980s will be displayed on the mansion grounds from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can stroll through the amazing collection of vintage vehicles on display. They can view the cars up close, talk with the owners and meet fellow automobile enthusiasts.
