Join the 5th annual Fort2Base Race. There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Mile or 3 Nautical Mile events (11.5 miles or 3.45 miles). The 10NM event begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, runs along the North Shore Trail and finishes within the confines of Naval Station Great Lakes. The 3NM event is run solely within Naval Station Great Lakes. All registered participants receive a tech shirt and finishers medals. Runners and walkers welcome!

Bishop Hill Clay and Fiber Fest
Interact with skilled potters and a variety of fiber artists during this two day event. Artists are featured in an indoor/outdoor classroom at Bishop Hill's Prairie Arts Center. Potters of all levels will demonstrate wheel throwing and hand building techniques, the Native American art of horse hair pottery, pit and raku firing processes and more. Learn weaving, spinning, rug hooking and broom making. Make and take activities will be conducted both days. Jansson 5, a Bishop Hill-based group, will entertain with their diverse musical style in the village park Saturday afternoon, and an old-fashioned pie and ice cream social will be held there, too. Saturday evening, a soup supper takes place in the Bishop Hill Colony School. For $10, attendees can pick out a hand-thrown bowl, fill it with homemade soup, and take the bowl home afterward.
Barn Quilts of DeWitt County: "Red,Wine, & Blues Tour"

This 45th Annual event is one of the most significant southern Gospel singing events in the state of Illinois. Many quartets, duets, and even soloists showcase their talents each year over three days at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center. The Nehrkorns are the host trio for the 2014 year.

A Gift: Selections from the Cleve Carney Bequest
In 2014, Elmhurst Art Museum was bequeathed nearly 300 works from the collection of Cleve Carney (1939-2013), a longtime Board member, donor and supporter of the museum. The largest gift in EAM's history, these paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and video installations by an international group of artists will be a significant addition to the collection, broadening the scope of the museum's holdings of contemporary art. This presentation highlights select work from the donation and serves as a tribute to the vision, the patronage and the generosity of Cleve Carney, who will be truly missed.

The Annual Waukegan Air Show, Wings Over Waukegan, is a great time for the whole family and has been extended to a 2-day show. Enjoy the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demonstration Team, F-18 Hornet, USN Static Aircraft Displays, Classic Warbirds, Jet Bus and Military Aircraft as they soar through the sky performing exciting stunts and procedures. There will also be food and refreshment booths. Gates open at 9:30am and show begins at noon.

On the Brink: New Work by Nnenna Okore
EAM presents new work by internationally celebrated sculptor Nnenna Okore. Through repetitive, labor-intensive processes, Okore transforms discarded and organic materials like burlap, newspapers, plastic bags and twine into large-scale wall hangings and installations. Okore-s dramatic and undulating forms float in and across space, often casting shadows on their surrounds. Influenced by the textures, colors and landscapes of her Chicago milieu as well as the more rural environment of the small town in Nigeria where she was raised, Okore's new fiber and paper works explore the fluidity of life, finding beauty in the inevitable processes of aging and decay. Okore is a professor of art at Chicago's North Park University and was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2013.

The Miss Illinois Scholarship Association is a duly-accredited state preliminary scholarship association in the Miss America Organization - the world’s largest provider of scholarship and cash assistance to young women. For four nights, the Marion Cultural and Civic Center will host preliminaries, Outstanding Teen and Pre-Teen pageants, and overall finals.
Highland Park's Art Center's Festival of Fine Arts
Situated on the beautiful tree-lined streets surrounding TAC, the revamped festival will showcase original works from 120 juried artists. Silhouetted against classical architecture and stately mature trees, the artists set up their outdoor galleries around historic Market Square. Starved Rock Photography Club
Whether you are just beginning in photography, are an advanced amateur or a professional, you are welcome to the Starved Rock Photography Club. Monthly photography walks at Starved Rock State Park’s Lodge with club leader, Jacki Pienta. The Photography Club will meet each month throughout the year for guided walks to planned sites for photography opportunities. Members will informally exchange ideas and tips for quality nature and wildlife photos. We will meet the 4th Saturday of every month at 9am in the back of the Large Parking Lot at Starved Rock Lodge. All meetings will consist of a hike to an area of either Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park or Buffalo Rock. Undying Words 1858-1865
A powerful look at Lincoln’s greatest words and how they helped end slavery in America. “Undying Words” explores the most important speeches of Lincoln’s career, showing how his views on slavery evolved as he sought to hold the country together. One hundred fifty years after the Civil War ended and Lincoln died, this exhibit shows what was at stake for the slaves, soldiers and families caught up in the crisis Lincoln devoted himself to ending.

Puschase your ticket at the Silver Creek Depot, and browse for novelties in the Freight House. Visit the Silver Creek Museum which offers 25 rooms of early Americana, Henney Motor Company vehicles, which were manufactured in Freeport, and the operating Cooper-Corliss engine, a giant 130 ton steam engine. Food will be available at the Museum.

The 12th Annual Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Festival
Currently rated as one of the top 100 art festivals in the country, the festival hosts more than 100 juried artists from around the globe. 10th Annual Music & Wine Festival

A number of artisans will be on site demonstrating their crafts including, woodcarving, flax processing, soap making, embroidery, pottery, basket weaving, blacksmithing, wheat weaving, and tatting. Gerry Barker will bring his oxen, the Unreconstructed Civil War Band will perform, and be sure to catch the puppet show. Don't miss the Frolic 5K! A 5k run and mile walk to kick off the festivities on Saturday.
Wine, Women, and Windows ~ Bishop Hill Quilt Show
The annual quilt show is like a needle and thread as it, too, joins together family members and friends to create something memorable. This event continues to grow and over 100 quilts and quilted pieces are entered in this judged show at the Colony School. Be sure to visit the Village Smithy and VagnHall Galleri to see additional quilts on display.

Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days
The 26th Annual Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days will be held at John A Logan College. It is the largest celebration of Hunting and Fishing Day in the country. This 200+ vendor show offers something for the whole family. Bass Fishing and Crappie seminars, catfish contest, Goose calling contests, Dock Dogs competitions, retriever demonstrations and a kids fishing hole are just a few of the activities throughout the weekend.

Andover Christmas Julotta
For over 160 years this early morning (6:30 a.m.) service has been held at Augustana Lutheran Church. The service is held in a setting similar to that used by the Swedish congregation in 1870. The choir sings a Swedish anthem and the service is in English. Candles in the pews, altar and windows illuminate the sanctuary. Service begins at 6:30am.

Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad and Silvercreek Museum Labor Day Celebration
All aboard the antique steam train as a 36 ton, 1912 Heisler steam locomotive pulls three cabooses, and two passenger flatcars for a four mile ride through farmlands and across a bridge 30 feet above Yellow Creek. Purchase your ticket at the Silver Creek Depot, a turn-of-the-century replica filled with railroad artifacts. Browse for novelties in the Freight House and visit the Silvercreek Museum which offers 25 rooms of early Americana, a display of antique machinery, Henney Motor Company vehicles which were manufactured in Freeport, and the operating Cooper-Corliss engine, a giant 130 ton steam engine. Galesburg Heritage Days

Traditional Music Festival
Performers from all over the Midwest will entertain on such instruments as mountain and hammer dulcimers, concertinas, bones, autoharps, fiddles, banjos, and guitars. There will be a large clogging platform provided outside the village, which will be filled with cloggers starting at noon on Sunday.
The 18th Annual Lincolnshire Art Festival
