Starved Rock Photography Club
Whether you are just beginning in photography, are an advanced amateur or a professional, you are welcome to the Starved Rock Photography Club. Monthly photography walks at Starved Rock State Park’s Lodge with club leader, Jacki Pienta. The Photography Club will meet each month throughout the year for guided walks to planned sites for photography opportunities. Members will informally exchange ideas and tips for quality nature and wildlife photos. We will meet the 4th Saturday of every month at 9am in the back of the Large Parking Lot at Starved Rock Lodge. All meetings will consist of a hike to an area of either Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park or Buffalo Rock. Please be prepared to carpool if necessary. $25.00 annual fee to join which will include a club t-shirt and an annual cookout! Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm 4th Saturday of each month. Tour de Shawnee Bike ride
Bicyclists meet at the Olive Branch Community Center at 8 AM. Organized bike routes of 15, 30, 45, 62 and 100 mile rides around scenic Horseshoe Lake and area. Entry fee includes: Event bag, chance for attendance prizes. Early registration includes commemorative t shirt.
Starved Rock Walkers Club
Join the fun on our weekly, guided hikes! Explore Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, the I & M Canal and a nearby Nature Preserve. Every Thursday morning, year round, the Starved Rock Walkers Club meets in the lobby of the Lodge and departs at 9:00 am. Hikes last between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the destination. The hikes vary each week and over a 4-month period, the group will see the entire park. Make some new friends and learn about wildlife, wildflowers and more. This event is free and open to the public. Please note: We will not hike on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve. Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Every Thursday (year round).
Bike MS Tour De Farms
Thousand of cyclists to participate in Bike MS: Tour De Farms in DeKalb. Bike MS: Tour de Farms is one of the largest fundraisers of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Illinois Chapter. Children under 12 years old are invited to participate in a special Bike MS course exclusively for junior riders. All children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older and submit a $15 registration fee. Also on Saturday, five Chicago-based bands will perform from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Residents of DeKalb and the surrounding communities are invited to attend. Registration for Bike MS is open to individual riders, teams, volunteers and virtual riders.
Fly with the Eagles Half Marathon
Fly With The Eagles Half Marathon is organized by the River to River Runners Club and is the club's first race on the calendar each year, coming in the late winter season for a cold-weather half marathon that takes runners along the roads and trails of the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
Join the 6th annual Fort2Base Race. There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Mile or 3 Nautical Mile events (11.5 miles or 3.45 miles). The 10NM event begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, runs along the North Shore Trail and finishes within the confines of Naval Station Great Lakes. The 3NM event is run solely within Naval Station Great Lakes. All registered participants receive a tech shirt and finishers medals. Runners and walkers welcome!
Twilight Shuffle 5K Run
Run through the historic neighborhoods of the east side of Libertyville. Professional timing. Families are encouraged (no children under 9) to run. After finishing the course, all participants are invited to join their fellow racers for a fabulous post-race party (including light dinner and non-alcoholic drinks for all registered participants) at the new Mickey Finn's Brewery. No registrations will be accepted or processed after 12pm on race day.
Quad Cities Marathon
This marathon offers beautiful views of the Mississippi River, entertainment and more. 5 Races to choose from including: Marathon, Half Marathon, 5-Person Relay, 1 Mile Walk, 5K Run/Walk, and kids runs.
Tunnel Hill 50/100 Mile Run
Are you looking for your first 100 mile run? This could very well be the course you're looking for! Flat, fast course on the Tunnel Hill Illinois State trail . Unlike a lot of rails-to-trails, there is nothing "flat" about the scenery. From wildlife inhabited wetlands to gorgeous rock formations, this trail has it all. Smooth crushed limestone covered dirt bed is wide and contains no trip hazards. Best of all is the iconic tunnel... over 600' of thrills you'll always remember. Includes a 50-mile option... all the fun of the 100 miler, except you run the course once instead of twice.
Annual Wood River Triathlon
Are you physically fit and up for a challenge? Be a part of the annual Wood River Triathlon. The event will begin with a swim at the Aquatic Center, followed by a bike ride and run through the streets of Wood River.
Ride Like An Egyptian
Join us for a fun and enjoyable bike ride through DeKalb and Kane Counties and support the historic Egyptian Theatre on Satruday, August 20th. Since the ride starts and ends at the Egyptian Theatre, you will have the opportunity to explore this historic landmark. This bike ride offers four mix-n-match 25-mile loops. All participants will be provided with route maps and all routes will be marked with signs. There will be great SAG support on all loops and a well-stocked central rest stop. Bike at your own speed, this is not a race. All ages are welcome, however, those under the age of 16 must ride with a participating parent or guardian. There will be an end-of-ride meal provided for registered riders. Meal will feature soup, sandwiches, and refreshments.
Run Your Ice Off
Over 200 runners participate in this annual “Hardcore” 5k race held, snow, rain or shine beginning at 8am.
2nd International Day of Yoga
International Day of Yoga (or Yoga Day) is a celebration of health and fitness. Participants will practice yoga and meditation. This event's purpose is to spread awareness about yoga and how to adopt it in one's lifestyle. Under the umbrella of the Consulate General of India - Chicago.
River Bassin' Tournament
The River Bassin Trail is an affordable tournament trail for river bass fishing anglers of all types. Whether you’re a beginner or a hard core tournament angler there is a reason to come have some fun with us at some of the tour stops. It matters not if you fish out of a kayak or canoe. We just want people to see and respect the beauty of our nation’s rivers so that they’re taken care of and given the attention they deserve for future generations to also enjoy. Trail begins on the Fox River in Batavia and ends at Silver Springs State Park, Yorkville/Plano.
