Nothing beats an old fashioned summertime food fest. And here in Illinois, we know how to do 'em right! Whether we're sampling the specialties of acclaimed chefs or celebrating the local harvest, we have reasons to feast all summer long. Here are some top picks.

Taste of Chicago
Chicago, IL
June 30 – July 9, 2006

Take a taste of everything from hot dogs to haute cuisine at this 10-day food fest. Each year, three million visitors fill Grant Park to sample the signature dishes of more than 60 Chicago area restaurants. You can also catch cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs and live concerts by national artists including Macy Gray and Liz Phair.

Clinton County Fair

There's no better way to spend a midsummer day than at an old fashioned county fair! Head down to the Clinton County Fairgrounds to fill up on your favorite fair foods while you take in the livestock shows, carnival rides, tractor pulls and a demolition derby.

Come get a super-fresh taste of the summer corn harvest at the Sugar Grove Corn Boil. While corn is the star attraction, this weekend festival also includes arts and crafts booths, fireworks and carnival rides for all ages.

Rockin' Ribfest

Grab a slab of world championship ribs at this weekend-long food and music festival. Champion rib chefs from all across the country cook up their prize-winning recipes all day long, and live rock and blues bands hit the stage at night.

Illinois State Fair
Springfield, IL

Come out and enjoy ten days of nonstop entertainment at the 154th Annual Illinois State Fair. There's loads of fun for everyone, from heart-pounding carnival rides and superstar concerts to champion livestock competitions. And of course you'll find all your favorite fairground foods. Elephant ears and funnel cakes and corn dogs, oh my!

Peach Festival

Celebrate the harvest of the Illinois peach crop with delicious homemade cobblers, pies and peaches and cream. There are also carnival rides and games, and a Peach Queen contest!

Chandlerville Burgoo & Fish Fry

Never heard of burgoo? It's a traditional meat and vegetable stew cooked overnight in huge iron kettles, stirred in hourly shifts by community residents. Come try a bowl at this annual Chandlerville event that also features a carnival, flea market and parade.
