WAYNE'S WORLD

This excellent comedy follows the pursuits of a pair of suburban Aurora slacker friends who have a public access cable show and a penchant for ‘70s rock. The movie was filmed on location in Aurora and Chicago. One of the notable Chicago sites includes a kitschy gift shop with a large Indian statue on its roof.

PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES

An uptight businessman who is desperately trying to get home for Thanksgiving finds himself partnered with an easy going shower ring salesman who is on a journey of his own. The film was shot extensively in the Chicago suburbs. One of the most memorable scenes takes place when the two are forced to share a room at the Braidwood Inn (now the Sun Motel) in suburban Braidwood.

ORDINARY PEOPLE

This wrenching drama focuses on an affluent Lake Forest family as they deal with the accidental death of their eldest son. North Shore movie sites include The Original Pancake House in Wilmette, known for its homestyle breakfast dishes, including the popular baked apple pancake.

THE COLOR OF MONEY

An aging pool hustler tutors a promising young player and takes him around the country to work the pool halls. FitzGerald's, a historic nightclub that dates back to the 1920s in suburban Berwyn, was one of the Chicago-area movie locations used in the film.

UNCLE BUCK

In this sweet comedy, irresponsible Uncle Buck is left to baby-sit his rebellious niece and her two siblings when their parents leave to visit a sick relative. The movie was filmed in several towns along the North Shore. Sites include New Trier High School in Winnetka, one of the most prestigious high schools in the Chicago area.

ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING

A suburban babysitter is forced to take the kids along with her to Chicago when her friend is stranded in a seedy bus station. Chicago filming sites include the city's L trains and FitzGerald's nightclub in suburban Berwyn, known for hosting some of the best bands on the local music scene.

HOME ALONE

An eight-year-old boy is accidentally left home alone as his family rushes off for a vacation to France, leaving him to fend for himself against a pair of bungling burglars. Filmed along the North Shore, movie sites include Wilmette's Trinity Methodist Church and the Hubbard Woods Metra Station in Winnetka. Right across the street from the Metra train tracks is the former drugstore where the stranded kid stole a toothbrush in the movie.
