Fischer Theatre

Historic Fischer Theatre, owned by the Vermilion Heritage Foundation, was built as the Grand Opera House in 1884. From Lillian Russell to silent movies, this theater provided entertainment to the community until it's closing in 1982. As work continues toward the goal of complete restoration, the lobby is used for many public events. The theater also houses the "Stage Presents The Fischer Gift Shop" where you will find creations by local artists and artisans, as well as products highlighting the area's famous stage, movie and vocal artists.

Fithian Home

The 1855 Victorian mansion was the home of Dr. William Fithian, a friend of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln spent two nights here in 1858.

Illinois Central Railroad Historical Society Headquarters

The Illinois Central Railroad Historical Society is dedicated to preserving historical and educational information about the Illinois Central Railroad and the many predecessor railroads that have been part of the IC system. This headquarters feature a depot, museum and library.

Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society

The Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society was the first genealogical society in Illinois. Our primary interest is gathering and preserving genealogical and historical information pertaining to Vermilion County, Illinois and the surrounding counties of Illinois and Indiana. The library contains some information on most all of the United States. The Governor Bradford Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution maintain their collection of information here.

Lamon House

The 1840s Lamon House is believed to be the oldest frame residence in the area. Constructed by Joseph Lamon, cousin of Ward Hill Lamon who was Lincoln's law partner and presidential bodyguard.

David S. Palmer Arena

Visitors to Danville can watch special events such as concerts, trade shows, circuses and other performances throughout the year. The arena hosts the annual Dustbowl basketball tournament, Danville Dashers hockey and public ice skating.

Walldog Walking Tour

Walldog sign and mural artists trace their trade back to the signpainters of old who painted advertisements on walls in communities all over the country. They worked like dogs in the hot sun and thus came to be known as "wall dogs". Walldog artists traveled from all over the world to paint our murals. Artists came from as far as New Zealand, with others coming from British Columbia, Hawaii, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, California and many other locations. The walls were painted not only by visiting Walldogs, but also by anyone from the community who wanted to help.

This old ourthouse museum houses numerous exhibits, as well as collections of natural and cultural objects that reflect the dinstictive characteristics of the county.

The Babe - Danville Stadium

The life of legendary baseball star Babe Ruth is the focus of this biopic. The Danville Stadium (home to the present-day Danville Dans college baseball team) was used to portray Fenway Park and Forbes Field in the film. Wrigley Field in Chicago was used to represent all of the other baseball parks featured in the movie. Cubs fans can tell the location just by looking at how the grass is distinctively cut near first and third bases.

Mann's Chapel

Mann's Chapel, located just south of Rossville, is the oldest church in Vermilion County, constructed in 1857.
