Forest Park is a municipal park with the Chautauqua Auditorium, Vietnam Memorial, Family Aquatic Center, picnic areas, pavilions, baseball & softball diamonds, fishing lagoon (Crystal Lake), skateboard park, soccer fields, a youth athletic center, and more. There is an entrance to the General Dacey trail at the back of the park and the Memorial Sunken Gardens have been revitalized. The park is also home to the Festival of Lights.
The stage is set for a great evening of festivities and fun for the entire family as the Effingham Central Business Group hosts the 3rd annual Chili Fest on Friday, October 16th, from 5-8 p.m. in Downtown Effingham. Nearly two dozen businesses will host either a chili tasting stop or other treats and refreshments throughout the evening. You can also do a little late night shopping to see what the great stores in the Central Business District have to offer! Many family friendly activities are also planned throughout the evening, including celebrity choice awards, live music, games and more. Bring the entire family!
Memorial Sunken Gardens
Started in 1932, the sunken gardens were developed inside Forest Park. The lush garden and its scenic surroundings are open to the public and is available for weddings, reunions, and more.
Forrest W. "Bo" Wood Recreation Area

Wolf Creek State Park
Eight miles northwest of Windsor, Wolf Creek State Park encompass 11,100 acres of water, 250 miles of shoreline and large tracts of carefully maintained indigenous woodlands ideal for camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, boat fishing, water skiing, pontoon boating, windsurfing or just plain bobbing and drifting on the glittering expanse of the lake itself. In addition to visiting the small, friendly wooded campgrounds or taking part in the action on the lake, swimming is available from the beach. You can also take a leisurely stroll through nearby forests. An abundance of deer, pheasant, rabbits, wild turkey and songbirds are almost always visible.
The National at Eagle Creek
This 18-hole pro golf course has been refurbished with new sand traps, and water features and has great views of Lake Shelbyville. There is a driving range and paved cart paths.
Timberlake Golf Club
This nine-hole, par 35 course features a campground on premises, along with golfing/camping packages.
