Scripps Park Golf Course was originally built as a 9-hole course in 1923. The original 9 has many rolling fairways with bunkered greens and challenging water hazards. In 2002 the course expanded to 18 holes with the back 9 having the open feeling of a "links style" course. The wide fairways and creative hazards complement the demanding greens. All 18 holes are irrigated and provide consistent play from early spring to late fall. The course is long enough to be enjoyably challenging but easily accessible to walkers as well as cart players. You can purchase annual individual or family passes or pay by the round. Cart rental and a well stocked pro shop is available. The course can also accommodate groups and corporate outings.

While out driving the trail, please remember that most of the sites on the map are easily seen from the road and all are on private property.

This one hour musical play tells the story of life in the early 1840s, as immigrants came up the Mississippi River to Nauvoo on the Maid of Iowa, a beautiful little paddle-wheeler. You’ll laugh at the antics of young Eli, thrill at the dancing and music, and feel the depth of devotion of these early settlers in Nauvoo as they face the martyrdom of their leader, and the violent and dangerous exodus from their homes in the middle of winter. Wolf Creek State Park
Eight miles northwest of Windsor, Wolf Creek State Park encompass 11,100 acres of water, 250 miles of shoreline and large tracts of carefully maintained indigenous woodlands ideal for camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, boat fishing, water skiing, pontoon boating, windsurfing or just plain bobbing and drifting on the glittering expanse of the lake itself. In addition to visiting the small, friendly wooded campgrounds or taking part in the action on the lake, swimming is available from the beach. You can also take a leisurely stroll through nearby forests. An abundance of deer, pheasant, rabbits, wild turkey and songbirds are almost always visible.

Evanston Ecology Center
Built on the grounds of the Ladd Arboretum in 1974, the Evanston Ecology Center serves as the education nucleus of the arboretum. An area of natural beauty, the arboretum stretches along a three-quarter mile segment of McCormick Boulevard on a narrow, 23-acre strip of reclaimed land that follows the diagonal course of the North Shore Channel. The Evanston Ecology Center offers many programs throughout the year such as an Easter egg hunt, community plays, and musical performances. Many are free.
Rock River Cruise
For those with an urge to explore a genuine Illinois prairie, this ride takes you past one of the largest pieces of preserved prairie in the state. The Rock River Cruise is 34.7-miles of moderate difficulty, with a few small climbs along the way. Stop off and visit some of the many attractions along the way, including the John Deere Historic Site and the charming town of Oregon.
Heinz Orchard is only 37 miles from downtown Chicago making it the closest apple orchard to Chicago. There are a number of different apples to pick from: Golden Delicious, Empire, McIntosh, Jonathan and Red Delicious. If you’re looking for something different to do, without traveling too far from home, this is a great orchard to check out.

Palmer Park Chicago
The park is named for Potter Palmer (1826–1902), a successful businessman and real estate investor concerned with the development of Chicago. Palmer was responsible for reclaiming the acres of swampland north of the city's business district, which were developed into the Lake Shore Drive area. He built the original baseball field for the Cubs' predecessor, the Chicago White Stockings, and built the Palmer House Hotel. Palmer Park was created in 1904 by the South Park Commission. Under the guidance of superintendent J. Frank Foster, the commission opened ten new neighborhood parks, including Palmer Park, in an effort to create breathing space and recreational areas in the city's crowded tenement districts. These parks were built by Olmsted Brothers landscape architects and D.H. Burnham and Co. architects.
