The Ariston Cafe was founded by Pete Adam, a Greek immigrant, in Carlinville, Illinois in 1924. The original cafe was located on Route 4, the predecessor of Historic Route 66. In 1929, the Cafe was relocated to Litchfield, Illinois and moved into its present location on Route 66 in 1935. Since 1966, Pete’s son Nick and wife, Deme, continue to offer the traditional service expected of a family-owned and operated restaurant. The cafe is believed to be one of the oldest restaurants on Route 66 and has been inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame and is placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Amtrak trains arrive and depart Carlinville daily. Macoupin County Transit offers rides to and from Plainview Vineyard from Carlinville for just $5. Three free samples are offered at their winery. Plainview Vineyard has a State of Illinois shipper and distributor license.

The Walnut Street Winery plus Saunas is unlike many other wineries. We make fine wines in small batches using the best raw materials available from some of the best vineyards all over the world. Our wine garden features a bocce ball court that is 60 feet long and 13 feet wide. You can enjoy your wine out in the open air, along with a delicious Isabell's Pizza or some of the great Wisconsin cheeses that we have available.
