Sinnissippi Golf Course opened in 1912, as Rockford’s first public course and only the second course in the city at the time (Rockford Country Club). The course was designed by Thomas Bendelow, who designed the country’s first public course located in New York City. His goal was to create golf courses that were inexpensive and easy to maintain which helps explain the lack of sand bunkers or water hazards at Sinnissippi Golf Course. Bendelow also designed the famous #3 course at Medinah Country Club in Chicago. Sinnissippi is a 9-hole course, covering 3,230 yards. It features natural elements, such as large trees and rolling hills. Sinnissippi has been nationally recognized for many years and in the 1980’s was the longest 9-hole course in the nation. The layout is a challenge for golfers of all abilities.
