Annual Alton Half Marathon & 5K
Jog or walk into spring by participating in the Annual Alton Half Marathon. Enjoy the scenic views of the Mississippi River and historic areas of Alton. Tour De Cure
Join over 1,000 cyclists, in the fight to stop diabetes at the Alton Riverfront Amphitheater. Choose to ride 10, 30, 50, 62, or 100 miles on routes that will take you through beautiful rural Illinois with various terrains, from flat to moderate rolling hills. Cyclists of all ages can find a route in this well-supported ride. Rest stops are located approximately every 10 miles and are stocked with water, snacks, beverages and first aid. Support vehicles patrol the routes for you assistance and safety. Following your ride enjoy an extraordinary post-event party that includes live music, great food and free admission into Raging Rivers Water Park in Grafton! Opening Weekend at Arlington International
Opening weekend at Arlington International Racecourse is sure to be a party! Cheer on your favorite thoroughbred alongside your mom! Sunday is Mother's Day, so be sure to celebrate. Post time is at 3:15pm.
Old Settlers Swedish Stomp and Skamperoo
Begins at 9 am, Skamperoo starts at 10 am. Over 150 runners each year of all ages enjoy this tradition of family fun running through historic Bishop hill, during the annual 5K run/walk. Runners vie for the coveted hand carved wooden boot trophy, symbolic of the Swedish Stomp. Open to all ages 7 to 107.
Grand Illinois Trail and Parks Bike Tour
The 14th annual GITAP bicycle tour provides a fully-supported, bicycle-based vacation for up to 225 registrants. This year’s ride starts and ends at Coal City High School, with overnight stays in Oglesby, Washington, Bloomington-Normal (two nights), and Pontiac. Participants average 50 miles per day on quiet country roads and some off-road trails, while their luggage is transported to the next overnight destination. Riders choose between camping at designated in-town locations or staying in nearby motels. The event is not a race. Individuals ride at their own pace touring the countryside and visiting towns, restaurants, and convenience stores along the way. Breakfasts and dinners are provided. Registration costs $460 (extra for motel option) with no pledge fundraising involved.
Illinois High School Shrine Game
The 42nd Annual Illinois High School Shrine Game is scheduled for June 18, 2016 at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. The goal of the Illinois High School Shrine Game is to have 88 all-star football players play in this annual event to represent the Illinois Coaches Association and to help support the mission Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The outdoor Show returns! This one-day event welcomes the public to a variety of outdoor vendors inside the heat controlled Sportsplex with special expert presentations. Vendors displaying the latest gear and equipment will be on hand to help get you ready for spring and summer. There will be food and beverages available.

NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament
Danville Area Community College and the City of Danville will again host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament at the DACC campus March 18-22, 2014. This year marks the 21st year that Danville has hosted the tournament and the 29th year of the tournament.
Progress City Cluster of Dog Shows
The Progress City Cluster is a combination of dog shows hosted by the Champaign Illinois Kennel Club, the Mattoon Kennel Club, and the Sandemac Kennel Club. Spectators are welcome to watch all shows for a small fee.

The Midstate Cup Soccer Tournament
Sponsored by MidState Soccer Club and Decatur Park District, this major Central Illinois youth soccer event will bring in over 7000 fans from across the country. Money raised from the event benefits the MidState Soccer Club premier youth soccer program and complex in Decatur, IL. Over 130 teams with boys and girls ranging in age from 7-18 will be competing for the MidState Cup trophies. Come on out and help support this great program and root on the boys and girls!
Biking with Beanzie
Biking with Beanzie is a recreational ride presented by Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb and sponsored by Kishwaukee Community Hospital.The ride route consists of primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain with estimated ride options of 23, 43, 63, 80, or 101 miles. All roads are well-paved, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor. This year also includes 3-mile, 5-mile, & 8-mile community bicycle pathway route options.

2016 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament at Northwestern University
The 2016 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will be hosted by Northwestern from May 5-8. The tournament will include all six conference programs, with two quarterfinal matches on Thursday. The top two seeds will receive byes to Friday’s semifinals, followed by the championship match on Sunday.
The Decatur-Forsyth Classic, held at the Hickory Point Golf Course, is the longest running tournament on the LPGA Symetra Tour and the third longest running women’s golf tournament on the LPGA. This year, the tournament at Hickory Point Golf Club will showcase a three day, 54 – hole stroke play professional tournament featuring a purse of $130,000.
Frankfort Half Marathon
The Frankfort Half Marathon will begin and end in the beautiful historic district of downtown Frankfort. The race will commence right outside the door of Running Excels on the Old Plank Trail and run westward. After 2.7 miles of running on the scenic, tree-lined Old Plank Trail, the racers will turn off into the Hickory Creek Forest Preserve. The rolling hills of the forest preserve will provide a picturesque tour for the runners as they reach the halfway and turn-around point in the race. The runners will then proceed back through the forest preserve and to the Old Plank Trail for their final journey towards the finish line and the post-race party on the Breidert Green. 7AM.
