Great River Road Run
It is time again for the Great River Road Run. Race your way to victory with the choice of a 2 mile route or a 10 mile route out and back on the Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway, beginning in Alton. It's the most scenic run you'll ever make as you race to the finish along the Mississippi River and the majestic limestone bluffs.
World Rolle Bolle Tournament
Rolle Bolle developed by Belgians, is a game of skill similar to horseshoes. This event draws over 50 three-man teams. Tournaments begin Friday for teams, Saturday for State and Sunday is the World Rolle Bolle Event held at Howe’s Park in Annawan. Come see how it’s done! Activities begin at 10 am.

River Bassin' Tournament
The River Bassin Trail is an affordable tournament trail for river bass fishing anglers of all types. Whether you’re a beginner or a hard core tournament angler there is a reason to come have some fun with us at some of the tour stops. It matters not if you fish out of a kayak or canoe. We just want people to see and respect the beauty of our nation’s rivers so that they’re taken care of and given the attention they deserve for future generations to also enjoy. Trail begins on the Fox River in Batavia and ends at Silver Springs State Park, Yorkville/Plano.
Old Settlers Swedish Stomp and Skamperoo
Begins at 9 am, Skamperoo starts at 10 am. Over 150 runners each year of all ages enjoy this tradition of family fun running through historic Bishop hill, during the annual 5K run/walk. Runners vie for the coveted hand carved wooden boot trophy, symbolic of the Swedish Stomp. Open to all ages 7 to 107.
Chicago Southland Dragon Boat Festival
The dragons are coming to Blue Island for the inaugural Chicago Southland Dragon Boat Festival. Watch these long 20-seat boats with a dragon decoration on the outside mimic the old war canoes of ancient Asian past. This ancient Chinese sport has become one of the fierce competitions throughout the world, and is growing rapidly in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. 9AM-3PM.
Byron Dragway Meltdown Drags
The annual Byron Dragway Meltdown Drags is a 3 day event that recreates a 1960’s era drag meet. It features cars from 1966 and older because that was a time when gassers were king! Go to the website for full racing schedule and make sure to follow them on Facebook.

The nation's largest annual LGBT sporting event is growing even more this year, with a special prize for a finalist of the annual national anthem contest and the induction of the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame to create a weekend-long LGBT sports event.
Out at the Sox
For $35, you can get a reserved seat at this Chicago White Sox game with other LGBT and ally fans, or for $15 more, you’d gain entry to our pre-game party which will feature giveaways, drink tickets, and light bites. A portion of all proceeds goes directly to Equality Illinois to benefit our continuing work for full LGBT equality.
Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy
Experience the excitement as teams compete in a fast-paced race along the Chicago River on beautifully decorated dragon boats at the 16th Annual Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy. The Chinese Dragon Boat Race dates back to over 2,000 years and is a popular sport amongst Chinese and Asian communities all over the world. Started in 2000, the Chicago Dragon Boat Race is a family-fun activity enjoyed by the residents of Chinatown and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Huskie Chi-Town Showdown
Northern Illinois University and the University of Toledo will play in the "Huskie Chi-Town Showdown," the first football game in the 25-year history of U.S. Cellular Field, on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Annually one of the Mid-American Conference's premiere contests, the #MACtion game between MAC West Division rivals will air nationally on an ESPN Network at a time to be determined. Single game tickets for the Huskie Chi-Town Showdown will be priced at $45, $55 and $65 and will go on sale via Ticketmaster on August 1 along with single game tickets for NIU's five Huskie Stadium home games. NIU students will be admitted free with their OneCard and can purchase student guest tickets for $22.
MS: Tour de Farms Bike Ride
Bike MS: Tour de Farms is a ride that will take you farther than you’ve ever gone before. What makes this ride so special? Escape the city for a weekend with 2,000 cyclists of all ages and cycling abilities for the challenge of your choice. Start and finish at Northern Illinois University. Along the way stop at a local farm rest stop to hang with the animals, enjoy a famous hamburger and egg sandwich for lunch and pedal over rolling hills through the Northern Illinois farmland. At Saturday’s festival, celebrate your accomplishments with a full meal, revel in live music and relax in the beer garden.
Biking with Beanzie
Biking with Beanzie is a recreational ride presented by Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club of DeKalb and sponsored by Kishwaukee Community Hospital.The ride route consists of primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain with estimated ride options of 23, 43, 63, 80, or 101 miles. All roads are well-paved, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor. This year also includes 3-mile, 5-mile, & 8-mile community bicycle pathway route options.
Ride Like An Egyptian
Join us for a fun and enjoyable bike ride through DeKalb and Kane Counties and support the historic Egyptian Theatre on Satruday, August 20th. Since the ride starts and ends at the Egyptian Theatre, you will have the opportunity to explore this historic landmark. This bike ride offers four mix-n-match 25-mile loops. All participants will be provided with route maps and all routes will be marked with signs. There will be great SAG support on all loops and a well-stocked central rest stop. Bike at your own speed, this is not a race. All ages are welcome, however, those under the age of 16 must ride with a participating parent or guardian. There will be an end-of-ride meal provided for registered riders. Meal will feature soup, sandwiches, and refreshments.
Independence Day 5K Run/Walk
Wear your red, white and blue and show your patriotic spirit at The Independence Day 5K Run! The run will be held on a USATF certified course with chip timing. Walkers are also allowed and welcomed! This is a family friendly event, however, strollers, bikes and dogs are not allowed for safety purposes. Race meeting point is the Hopkins Park Shelter - on site registration will be cash only, early registration is encouraged.
DuQuoin State Fair
The DuQuoin fair is one of the nation's best agricultural events. The fair offers plenty of entertainment, including a carnival, livestock shows, agricultural exhibits, contests, and national acts on the grandstand stage.
The Decatur-Forsyth Classic, held at the Hickory Point Golf Course, is the longest running tournament on the LPGA Symetra Tour and the third longest running women’s golf tournament on the LPGA. This year, the tournament at Hickory Point Golf Club will showcase a three day, 54 – hole stroke play professional tournament featuring a purse of $130,000.
32nd Annual Antique & Classic Boat Show
The 32nd Annual Antique & Classic Boat Show will feature over 40 wooden and classic fiberglass boats in-water for the public to view. Owners will eagerly share their boat's history while docked at Famous Freddies piers in Fox Lake. The classics range in age from the 1930's to the 1970's. It's a great opportunity for people of all ages to experience something they may have only seen in movies.
Star-Spangled Shenandoah Pro Rodeo and Fireworks
Pro rodeo action featuring bareback riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding. Stay for the free fireworks immediately following the rodeo. For general hillside seating bring a blanket or lawn chair.
Trivia Night at Cademon Brewing Co.
Are you ready for another trivia night?! Join us the first Tuesday of the month for another round of Trivia at Cademon! Teams of 1-5 people participate in 4 rounds of 10 questions, followed by a final wagered question. At the end of each of the first four rounds, you turn in your answer sheet and all the empty glasses from that round. You get points for correctly answering, and a point for each glass your team emptied in that round.Entry Fee: none! We do this for free for you. - Top three teams get "house cash!"
UL International Crown at the Merit Club
The UL International is coming to the Merit Club in Lake County. The golfing competition will take place over four days with 32 players from 8 different countries. It will feature three days of four-ball competition and one day of singles matches on Sunday. Five of the eight countries will advance to the Sunday singles matches based on the outcome of the four-ball matches contested Thursday through Saturday. Tickets are on sale now.
Great River Road Run
We offer a half marathon walk/run, 5K walk/run a 10K walk/run as well as a 13.1 and 55 mile bike ride. The race begins in Hamilton, Illinois, travels along the mighty Mississippi and ends in Nauvoo, Illinois at the state park. The Great River Road Run is one of the most scenic sport races in America and the proceeds benefit the Hancock County, Illinois Food Pantries.
Wiffle Fest is an annual wiffle ball tournament held in Homewood. Teams compete in two divisions, fast pitch & recreational, in a round-robin format. Come join us and have a ball!
