17th Annual Prairieland Chautauqua
Modeled after traditional Chautauquas, featuring musical shows, historical storytellers and reenactments portrayed by professionals and communal suppers. First Christian Church.
20th Annual General Grierson Days Civil War Reenactment
Largest mounted Civil War re-enactment in the Midwest. Step back in time and experience the life of a Civil War soldier. Visit the Confederate and Union camps. Watch the soldiers drill and prepare for battle, prepare meals and practice medicine. Veterans will be remembered from WWI and WWII. Re-enactors will have their tents set up and will be giving rides in WWII trucks. 1850’s vintage baseball game, featuring teams from Chicago, St. Louis and several more. Kid’s corner keeps the children entertained while learning about the past. Parades, full period dress grand ball, exhibits, food and of course major battle reenactments.
31st Annual Cruise Nite and Classic Car Show
One of the largest Cruise Nites in Illinois. This event brings in classic and antique autos for a full day and night of fun for the whole family. Attend the car show on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cruise from that evening from 5-9 p.m.
32nd Annual Pilot Club Holiday Home Tour & Tea

36th Annual Robbie McEvers Memorial Golf Tournament
The 36th Annual Robbie McEvers Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Links Golf Course. This free tournament for junior golfers attracts over 350 players each year.

Battle of Virden Monument
The 1898 Battle of Virden, the tragic result of local coal miners fighting for worker’s rights, is memorialized on the northeast side town square by a large bronze mural created by sculptor David Seagraves of Elizabeth, IL.
Beaver Dam State Park
