Bring your family to trick or treat in the safety of Midway Village Museum’s charming Victorian Village! More than 20 village buildings will be specially decorated for Halloween by local community groups, and families can trick or treat in each building to receive candy! There will also be additional children’s activities such as crafts, games and dancing! Starting in mid-afternoon, families can enter the enchanted woods and be transported into the famous adventure of The Jungle Book! Travel along the illuminated path to various scenes from the story and meet famous characters such as Baloo the bear, King Louis, Mowgli, and Shere Khan! Families are encouraged to dress in costume. Advanced tickets may be purchased at the Museum Gift Shop. Admission is also purchased at the gates the day of the event.

Kids enjoy Halloween Fun at the historic Lyon Farm the last two Sundays in October. They can Trick-or-Treat in the historic Lyon Farm Village, participate in a costume parade around the square, earn prizes awarded for best costume, play old-fashioned games, take hay rides, and get spooked in the Haunted house! At the 39 acre Lyon Farm, you can enjoy historic buildings such as the Oswego-Fox House, Union School one-room schoolhouse, the Seward Town Hall, Corrigan’s General Store, the 1850 Plano CB&Q railroad depot, a CB&Q caboose, a blacksmith shop and several large buildings containing displays of household, farming and commercial artifacts and archival records.
The annual Halloween Egg Hunt is a twist on an old tradition! Wear your costume, bring your flashlight, a container for eggs, and at 7:00pm, hunt in the darkness for candy-filled eggs! For the first time this holiday season, Santa’s Magical Trolley Express will have trolley rides through downtown Evanston, and then travel back to Santa’s North Pole workshop at Little Beans Café. The odyssey begins when the little ones board the trolley. They will be greeted by Mrs. Claus and the conductor, professional performers who know how to entertain kids, and build excitement as they journey north on their polar trek. Upon arrival at Santa’s North Pole abode—Little Beans Café—they will visit with old St. Nick, get a picture and let Santa know what they hope to find under the tree. Next comes cookies and cocoa with Mrs. Claus, some exciting Yuletide games with the elves and a special surprise.
Away in the Basement takes us back to 1959 and the day of the Sunday School Christmas Program. In the midst of holiday preparations, the ladies are creating their own memories from Christmases past and present. As the children rehearse up in the sanctuary, several of the ladies of the kitchen are finishing up the treat bags while the others put the final touches on the nativity pieces. Mending old bathrobe costumes and discussing who’s going to play the various roles, little do the ladies know what surprises are in store for them. Known for their hilarious antics and subtle charm, they are once again called upon to step in and save the day!
