22th Annual Chicago Underground Film Festival
The Chicago Underground Film Festival is an annual event showcasing independent, experimental and documentary films from around the world. This year’s festival at the Logan Theater will offer a mix of independent features, shorts, documentaries and experimental films augmented by nightly parties and concerts. Our programming is innovative and unique, ranging from the lowbrow entertainment of John Waters, Doris Wishman and Coffin Joe to fine art films/videos of the current avant-garde. With an exponential growth each year in both attendance and film submissions, the Chicago Underground Film Festival is an undeniable success.
Chicago Critics Film Festival
Created by the Chicago Film Critics Association in 2013, the festival held at the Music Box Theatre offers a selection of films comprised of recent festival favorites and as-yet-undistributed works from a wide variety of filmmakers. The CCFF is the only current example of a major film critics group hosting its own festival. The festival lineup features works from around the globe and offers viewers an eclectic blend of raunchy comedy, introspective drama and mind-blowing fantasy.
Held at Columbia College, CineYouth is our yearly student film festival that celebrates and showcases short films made by filmmakers 21 years old and younger from around the world. Celebrating its 11th year May 7-9, 2015, CineYouth strives to encourage the talent of young artists and to provide them with opportunities to tell their stories, network with their peers and be recognized for their creativity.
Star Wars Scavenger Hunt
Join in the fun at the Star Wars Scavenger Hunt at the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Children and families are invited to find all 20 of the original Star Wars figures plus a special bonus figure hidden throughout the Museum's galleries! All participants get a Star Wars game card. Midwest Independent Film Festival
The Midwest Independent Film Festival is the nation's only film festival solely dedicated to the Midwest filmmaker, presenting audiences with regionally produced independent cinema every first Tuesday of the month at Landmark Century Centre Cinema in Chicago. This year-round film festival sits proudly at the center of the independent film scene in Chicago and the Midwest and is dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the Midwest filmmaking community
Centennial Sinatra - A Tribute Celebrating the Life & Music of Frank Sinatra
Centennial Sinatra starring Steve Lippia is a celebration of the life and music of Frank Sinatra. Steve Lippia takes the audience on a musical journey from Sinatra’s earliest crooning days with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey to his historic collaborations with great arrangers. Steve is accompanied by a hot 10-piece swing band as well as a stunning video and photographic imagery that tell the story of this once-in-a-century artist. 7:30pm show time.

The large video screen will be set on the lawn along with the new interactive, family-friendly space on the north lawn that offers large-scale percussion instruments that will be open to kids of all ages. Legends In Concert live tribute shows are known for their elaborate theatrical sets, magnificent costumes and full array of incredible special effects, including three dimensional multimedia and multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art lighting, laser and sound systems. An outstanding cast of accomplished celebrity look-alike and sound-alike performers, talented singers and dancers, and a live orchestra comprised of some the top musicians in the industry, support each Legends In Concert production. 7:30pm show.
Chicago Palestine Film Festival
From April 18 through 30, the Gene Siskel Film Center collaborates with the Chicago Palestine Film Festival to present the fourteenth annual festival representing the spirit and mood of contemporary Palestinian life. This festival is dedicated to exhibiting film and video work that is open, critical, and reflective of the culture, experience, and vision of the artists.
Orson Welles 100th Birthday Festival 2015
A world-class figure in twentieth-century culture, Orson Welles was a tremendous force who excelled in film, live theater, and the broadcast media of radio and television. Come to Woodstock, IL, the town Orson Welles called home, to celebrate his 100th birthday!
Sycamore State Street Theatre
The Sycamore State Theater opened as the Fargo theater on November 28, 1925. The 900 seat, single screen Fargo theater was built at a cost of $115,000 by Henry Fargo of Geneva. The theater opened to live stage performances, silent movies, and a large Geneva Pipe organ. The first sound system was added in December 1928 at a cost of $20,000. In June of 1939 the Fargo theater was one of the first buildings to have air conditioning in DeKalb County. The Fargo became the State Theater August 6, 1940. The State Theater had a long run as a movie theater until November 1972 when lack of attendance the theater closed. It operated as a church for the next 17 years. For 9 months in 1989 the State Theater was bought with the vision of holding live country music shows once again the theater was closed due to lack of attendance. The State was made a three-screen theater in 1990 by splitting the large theater in half and making the old stage a third screen. The State Theater was home to the first Sycamore Film Festival in September 2011.
