You are cordially invited to the Hegeler family’s annual Christmas party. Step back in time to 1887 and be whisked away by the staff as you peek into the family’s and guests’ party preparations. Then, experience the fun of the party with carols, stories, and more. Guests at this event will tour the Mansion and will be guided through a play by one of our maids, meeting the Hegeler family and friends as the story unfolds. Actors in period dress in each room will give you a glimpse into the holidays as celebrated during Victorian times. The halls are festively decorated for the occasion. This theatrical tour is different every year and features local stars from Stage 212, Engle Lane, IVCC, and local high schools. This event always sells out quickly and is a fun annual tradition.
The Breaking the Prairie Museum presently consists of two buildings. The Mathesius Brothers' Barn was completed in 2002. In 2004, the Country Chapel was completed and both buildings were dedicated. The Mathesius Brothers' Barn can now be viewed at any time. Large windows on three sides allow viewing 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Farm tools and machinery are exhibited inside and outside this building. The Country Chapel represents a place of worship and family social life at the time the prairie was broken in the late 19th and early 20th Century. A pump organ, manufactured in Mendota in the 1880's produces wonderful music in the Country Chapel for special occasions. The Country Chapel is available for small weddings, renewal of wedding vows, anniversaries, meetings, or other small gatherings.

Mendota Golf Course is an 18 hole semi-private golf course. Mendota Golf Club has been serving its members since 1928. After starting as a 9 hole course, MGC expanded to be an 18 hole course in 1994. Members and guests enjoy the golf and setting on the 140 acres of rolling hills. MGC features beautiful bluegrass fairways and bent grass greens. A large putting green and a chipping area are also located up by the clubhouse.
Edgewood Park Golf Club was started in 1968 as a 9 hole course and in 1994, with the help of designer Jim Spears, was transformed into an 18 hole regulation golf course, challenging for the intermediate and semi-pro alike. It is meticulously maintained and has 6,600 yards of golf from the blue tees for a par of 72. Course rating is 71.7 with a slope rating of 125.
The 18-hole "Hidden Lakes" course at the Hidden Lakes Country Club facility in Sheffield, Illinois features 5,705 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70 . The course rating is 115.0 and it has a slope rating of 67. Designed by Steven Halberg, the Hidden Lakes golf course opened in 1921.

There will be huskies for you to meet and greet as well as the Husky Boutique and information about the rescue. Admission is free and event is open to the public. Sled demo times are 9:30am,12pm, and 3pm and are located at the Southwest end of the Starved Rock State Park Visitor's Center Parking Lot. Seminar times are 10:30am and 1:30pm and will be in the LaSalle Room in Starved Rock Lodge.

Pleasant Creek Campground is located 5 miles from the entrance of Starved Rock State Park in the gateway town of Oglesby Illinois. Pleasant Creek Campground is situated in a wooded setting along a tributary of the Virmilion River, surrounded by hills and mature trees. Pleasant Creek Campground has undergone numerous renovations and upgrades. There are 140 spacious sites with plenty of room for slide-outs and awnings. A variety of sites are available. Several sites, including full hook-up sites, are located right along the creek. All sites include a fire ring, picnic table, and varying amount of shade. One highlight of the campground is a spring-fed fishing pond that is naturally maintained year round. Our Camp Store, located at the Welcome Center, is stocked with camping provisions, ice, firewood and all of the supplies that you may have forgotten to pack. Our Bathhouse is equipped with sinks, counter tops, showers, and a laundry room (coin operated). Illinois' Newest RV & Tenting Campground is located just 5 miles from Starved Rock State Park. We have Creekside Campsites, Stocked Fishing Pond, Well Supplied Camp Store.
