America the Beautiful - Illinois Quarter Launch Ceremony
The U.S. Mint and the Shawnee National Forest will launch the 31st America the Beautiful coin – the Illinois quarter featuring Camel Rock formation at the Garden of the Gods Recreation Area. The event will include speakers and performers, and children under the age of 18 will receive a new Shawnee National Forest quarter to commemorate the event. There will be information about the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful program and a coin exchange will follow the event giving patrons the opportunity to exchange their currency for the new Illinois quarter. 10:00 am Southeastern Illinois College gymnasium.

Friday and Saturday specials are posted out on a rustic board along the street, and range from prime rib to a local favorite, the fully loaded nachos. The name Diver Down is in recognition of the owner, who is a diver that can help out if anyone at the local marina has a spun prop, or other problem on the Ohio River. Diver Down is a full service bar, waitresses are all local characters that keep things flowing smoothly.

Visit Historic Golconda and tour 4 homes, a church and the local museum. Christmas in the courtyard begins at 5:30 pm with refreshments and, at 6:00, a live Nativity Scene and caroling around a huge bonfire on the Court House lawn in downtown Golconda, Santa arrives on the fire truck at 6:30.

Hardin County Heritage Festival
The Hardin County Heritage Festival and Duck Race on the Ohio river celebrates the county’s rich heritage and history. The event includes exceptional period entertainment and activities to fill your weekend, including; 1800’s outdoor play, Civil War reenactment, pageant, quilt show, duck race, area craft and food vendors. Festivities also include a period ball, a Regal Women’s Tea and live entertainment throughout. Events are held in Elizabethtown (Saturday) and at the Hardin County K-12 School located East of Elizabethtown on 146. (Friday night pageant)
