Visitors of all ages have lots to do and see at this free family-friendly event. Kids can go through the hay maze, pick pumpkins or pet the new calves in the calf barn! There will be several artisan cheeses and other treats available for purchase.
The Coal Country Fall Festival is a family oriented event which has features that appeal to all ages. Many parts of the festival are free and entertaining and educational. This year’s outstanding display is a free display of dinosaurs including a life-size dinosaur. Free and live are exotic animals in a petting zoo, including Alaskan reindeer, pygmy goats, two-hump camels, and buffalo. A live reptile display is also a part of the day. There are free rides of the CCCC Choo Choo Train around and in the park. Over 8 hours of free, live entertainment! Over 80 vendors, including local businesses from the Coal Country area which encompasses 8 communities, sell 100’s of products in their booths.

Join the Coal Country Chamber of Commerce on its eleventh annual Tour de Coal bicycle ride on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at the Benld City Hall-Civic Center, 201 E. Central Ave. in downtown Benld. Saturday, September 24, will mark the 11th Anniversary of the Tour de Coal. This family oriented bicycle ride is for cyclists of all levels of expertise and is held in conjunction with this year's 17th Annual Coal Country Chamber of Commerce's Fall Festival held at the Benld City Park.
Chairs on Parade is an event where Carlinville businesses purchases a chair and decorates it to their liking. The event is all about bringing old fashioned fun, family and shopping together while supporting the local business community. The chairs will be on display outside of the businesses beginning on Saturday, August 6th. Part of the event includes the first ever Carlinville Restaurant Week from Monday, August 22nd through Sunday, August 28th, celebrating local food establishments and retail stores. The highlight of that week will occur on Friday, August 26th with a flotilla parade and afterwards an auction for chairs that are donated back to Shop Local First. The profit from the chairs will go to the local food bank. The night will also include Mid-West Largest Squirt Gun fight, and a street party with Captain Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters rock band.

Try your hand at the Litchfield TriathLou at Lake Lou Yaeger. Swimming in Lake Lou Yaeger is the best open water swim you will have in the Midwest. There really is no comparison to this large beach with pristine flat racing water. The bike course is flat and fast with some great curves to keep you entertained the whole ride. Both the 5k and 10k runs see very honest mile paces with plenty of flats, and a couple hills throughout. Sprint and Olympic distances are available.
You won't want to miss the 22nd annual Fly-In and car show. On Saturday, take a close look at warbirds, antique aircraft and automobiles on display.
