You are cordially invited to the Hegeler family’s annual Christmas party. Step back in time to 1887 and be whisked away by the staff as you peek into the family’s and guests’ party preparations. Then, experience the fun of the party with carols, stories, and more. Guests at this event will tour the Mansion and will be guided through a play by one of our maids, meeting the Hegeler family and friends as the story unfolds. Actors in period dress in each room will give you a glimpse into the holidays as celebrated during Victorian times. The halls are festively decorated for the occasion. This theatrical tour is different every year and features local stars from Stage 212, Engle Lane, IVCC, and local high schools. This event always sells out quickly and is a fun annual tradition.
The Breaking the Prairie Museum presently consists of two buildings. The Mathesius Brothers' Barn was completed in 2002. In 2004, the Country Chapel was completed and both buildings were dedicated. The Mathesius Brothers' Barn can now be viewed at any time. Large windows on three sides allow viewing 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Farm tools and machinery are exhibited inside and outside this building. The Country Chapel represents a place of worship and family social life at the time the prairie was broken in the late 19th and early 20th Century. A pump organ, manufactured in Mendota in the 1880's produces wonderful music in the Country Chapel for special occasions. The Country Chapel is available for small weddings, renewal of wedding vows, anniversaries, meetings, or other small gatherings.

Established in 1915, Timber Creek is not the ‘run of the mill’ golf course. With gentle rolling fairways, it was designed to give the golfer ample room off the tee while giving the player a challenge of a lie that may be slightly uphill or downhill. The closer you get to our bent grass greens, you will find sand traps placed by the architect in places that add to the overall character of the course. With new sand, you will find it as accommodating as one could. Our greens at Timber Creek were designed for game improvement and the scratch golfer alike.
Mendota Golf Course is an 18 hole semi-private golf course. Mendota Golf Club has been serving its members since 1928. After starting as a 9 hole course, MGC expanded to be an 18 hole course in 1994. Members and guests enjoy the golf and setting on the 140 acres of rolling hills. MGC features beautiful bluegrass fairways and bent grass greens. A large putting green and a chipping area are also located up by the clubhouse.
The original nine holes date back to 1913, offering beautiful views of the Rock River. The design is a 2700 yard, par 34 with lots of trees and small greens. The back nine, built in the late 60’s, is a 3200 yard track par 36, with large greens and sand traps. Adding to the challenge is the Holland creek running through it, coming into play on seven of the nine holes.
Shady Oaks Country Club offers a unique and challenging 18-hole layout where accuracy off the tee and accurate approach shots are rewarded. At 6,212 yards from the tips, Shady Oaks doesn’t “appear” to be difficult, but don’t let the yardage fool you. The tight tree lined fairways and small sloped greens can take a toll on even the most patient golfers and make scoring very difficult. Shady Oaks is open to the public and has 4 sets of tees for varying skill levels. There is a pro shop and bar serving sandwiches, snacks and beverages.

Strategically placed bunkers, generous, well-conditioned championship greens are features that all golfers appreciate.
