Christmas Parade - Metropolis
A holiday tradition in Metropolis, the Christmas Parade features bands, floats and Santa Claus. The parade kicks off at 1:30pm downtown. (Rain date: Sunday, Dec. 6th)
Carols at Early Candlelight
Singing of Christmas Carols led by Marjorie Brymer and the Gordon Family. Fun for all ages, starts at 4 pm. Casual dress. Refreshments served. Parking behind Stinson Library. Step back in time in this 1886 church listed on the National Register and remember the real meaning of Christmas.
Holiday House at Magnolia Manor
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Magnolia Manor is adorned in Holiday decorations and many of the displays are for sale. Luncheon reservations are available, as well as tours of the 14 room mansion by members of the Historical Society.

Memorial Day Service
An elaborate service, consists of the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, lowering of the flag, Invocation, Civil War Re-enactors, guest speakers, laying of the wreath, benediction, rifle and canon salute and taps.
Olde Tyme Christmas and Living History
Decorations and period music accompany reenactments of what 18th century life was like at Fort Massac. The park staff and local historical re-enactors will welcome guests to the visitors' center and museum, which will be festively decorated with items based on 17th and 18th century designs. Hot spiced tea will warm visitors as they sample cookies baked in the authentic period bake oven.

Darrell Shemwell's Bar-B-Que was chosen "Best BBQ on the Old River Road" by Money magazine and was featured in the June 2003 issue of Chicago Magazine. Shemwell's is open 7 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm. Specialties on the menu are BBQ pork, beef brisket, ham, and turkey and are sliced, not chopped like other BBQ. The 14 room historic mansion is decorated for the Holidays, with many of the decorations for sale. Holiday luncheons can be scheduled with reservations. Luncheons include a served meal and a house tour. Regular tours are offered from 1 to 4pm daily.
Metropolis Lighthouse - Hope Light
The lighthouse is located at the west entrance to the city-owned Dorothy Miller Park in Metropolis, Illinois overlooking the Ohio River. The lighthouse stands thirty feet tall and is surrounded by a circular walkway consisting of concrete and personalized bricks.

The present church is the original structure, built in 1860. Dedicated in 1861 as Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's Church, it features a 50-ft.-tall steeple, pews made of native yellow poplar, and balconies that span the full length of the building on both sides of the stairway.
This beautiful, historic 1865 mansion was once owned by the Halliday Family, and is now owned by the City of Cairo and open for tours.
