Country Lights Soy Candles started making candles as a hobby in 1999. At first, the candles were a soy/petroleum mix. After some experimenting, we were happy to go to a 100% soy candle. It did not take long for us to realize that soy candles were becoming very popular. Our "factory" is located on our family's Centennial Farm in north central Illinois. All of the candles are hand poured by family members.
This collaborative exhibit explores what it means to be Hmong American. How has Hmong life changed since refugees first entered the U.S. in the 1970s? What does it mean to be Hmong American today? Through objects, audio recordings and personal stories of Hmong Americans, this exhibit immerses visitors in the material culture and social issues of Hmong American communities. The exhibition is now open and will run through December 2016. A special opening reception featuring refreshments and live music will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the museum, located in Cole Hall on the NIU campus. The event is free and open to the public. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free and all are welcome.

We created The Lone Buffalo to be a restaurant and a brewery under one roof with one goal: to serve good food and beer in a comfortable atmosphere. We believe in the idea of “slow food” and we want our guests to savor what we offer. Chef Brok and his brigade use fresh products from our own farm and from other local farmers and producers. Everything on the menu is freshly cooked, every day, and varies with the seasons. Our beer is crafted, using traditional methods and equipment, from the best malts and hops available – including some from our own farm. We take care not to get in the way of the complex flavors of the simple ingredients in our food and beer. We won’t get in the way of your enjoyment of either – take your time and come back soon!
