Silkwood Inn Museum
The Silkwood Inn was built in 1827 and contains furnishings and artifacts from the 1800s. A tour trough this amazing Inn includes the telling of a famous local legend about the kindness of the Silkwood family, a slave girl named Priscilla, and the Trail of Tears. The museum is free to the public but donations are accepted.
West Franklin County Museum
This museum, located in an old school building contains artifacts, memorabilia and hundreds of photographs, which depict lifestyles and the people from the early days of Franklin County. Only 10 miles southwest of Rend Lake. The museum is free to the public but they do accept donations.

They come from miles around and from out of state for the fish fry, for the barbeque, for dancing and fun at this annual event, which is held at 17th & Pine Streets. Thursday the Fish Fry buffet is at 5:30pm – 8pm, $16 at the door. DJ starts at 8pm. Fish Fry & Wing Contest awards at 9pm. On Friday, the Grand Champion Buffet is at 5:30pm – 8pm, $22 at the door, and Band & Street Dance 8pm-12 midnight. A new event for Friday evening is the People’s Choice BBQ & Sauce Contest judging from 5:30 to 8pm. Saturday the judging begins at 10am. KCBS Great American BBQ Tour demos throughout the day. Oxbow Bed & Breakfast
The Oxbow Bed & Breakfast was built in 1929, and the Doughtys purchased the land in 1959. After renovations the large brick veneer home has sixteen rooms for a total of 6900 square feet of living space on three levels. The Inn sits on ten acres of rural land about one mile south of Pinckneyville, a town of 5,000 people. The house was converted into a Bed and Breakfast and now also includes two barns. The Oxbow Barn Apartment (the Honeymoon Suite) offers the most private quarters available at Oxbow. The Shannon Barn is for the use of all Oxbow guests and includes a hot tub and a roomy loft. The Oxbow house shelters five rooms for rent which are named after the people and events of the Civil War.
